@barry island, I have found a few over the years , I put some rat 🐀 poison at the entrance and when it’s gone , then soil & a brick or 2 , seem to work

Went to allotment this morning , more pruning and 4 barrow loads of bark chippings for paths , still more of the same to do this month
The beetroot I dug up the other day is no good will have to get rid of what’s left , also dug a celeriac up and that no good either , shame

I don't know if any of you grow a large crop of potatoes but wilco have seed potatoes on line for £3 per 2 kg I had mine delivered to a nearby tesco for £2.95 all seed looks good and just the right size the only gripe is that the box they come in is very thin and could have been damaged in transit luckily for me they were undamaged.

@barry island , got mine from local Wilko in Lincoln , earlies & main  , both chitting in conservatory
  • I have spent the day wheeling cow Muck. Finaygot the delivery I should have had in November but I had to wait till my leg injury was better.

Hello , went to allotment today , although cold the sun was out and no wind
Dug up carrots & parsnips and picked a cabbage , only one cabbage left
Unfortunately leeks bed was still frozen solid
Cut down some Jureslum Artichokes & Autumn Raspberries
As ever a few more jobs
Hoping to go there tomorrow as well , for some pruning

  • I shifted the last of the manure off the car park,  onto my plot.  The only other things were I picked some sprouts,  and managed to prise some beetroot out . The ground was frozen solid so not possible to do anything else.

Hello , had a good day at allotment yesterday with o/h , ground no longer frozen
Finally planted garlic , shallots & onions
Cleared the leeks out , some had gone to mush , the rest o/h has turned into soup today
Sprout not very good ,picked a few for dinner , very small , pulled a few up and left a few , just to see if they get any bigger
Hoping to spend tomorrow at plot
  • Made it to the plots today.  Managed to finish preparing the new strawberry 🍓 bed. They are going to be the most cosseted ever.  I  have dug in manure in the base, filled up with soil from other parts of the plot, then topped off with 4large bags of bought in topsoil mixed with some gravel for extra drainage.  I will let this settle for a couple of weeks,  before I plant up with the new stock. I would normally have trodden the soil to firm it but it's still a bit sticky so I will let it do its own thing for now.

Hello , had a good day at allotment yesterday , good rid of all the rotten veg and cleaned the beds
As ever lots of little jobs done , including new bark chippings on some of the paths , we have had a mountain of the stuff delivered in our car park
Hoping to have another full day on Friday
The new strawberry bed I planted last year is looking good , will need to cut the brown leaves of soon & weed . Somebody gave we some stacking strawberry pots , so going to plant these up for home
  • I did a trip down to the compost heap with some kitchen waste and noticed some posts around the fruit cage have fallen over at the soil level. Rotted with the wet conditions. Another "little" job to sort out.
A single spinach plant germinated and has survived so far, from my autumn sowing. Hopefully, it keeps going through the forecast cold snap coming this week.
