Been to plot this morning , bought some old pallets home for burning on fire and a fire bin that had , had it , so it’s now in black rubbish bin lifted some slabs where old shed was and connected another water butt to exciting one Started to rain so came home
A long morning on the plots, still digging bindweed. Need to press on now as the new raspberry canes arrived yesterday. I have to heel them in till I'm ready.
Great, let's hope it works. I have bought some topsoil, grit & manure for the new raised beds. I delivered it all to the Allotment, treated one of the new frames with "Ecosote" . I don't hold much hope of it stopping the rot, but we'll see.
Compost, manure, and a bag of JI3 all bought today on hubby's first outing driving, ( testing if ok to drive to work Monday ) cut up some more tree to top off the green bin for tomorrow. Refreshed soil in one of the beds and covered with closhe, ready to plant seeds. All trays washed for seed planting inside. Its great to get started.😁
I've dived in with both feet and got sowing, yes most likely fool hardy but I'm just young and stupid.
I've had some large double glazed units 6ftx3ft laid on my new main veg bed (they are raised on blocks) and the warmth underneath was too tempting, sowed 2 rows of carrots with a few radishes in there and then put the glass back.
Multi sowed a tray of boltardy beetroot, Lisbon spring onions and peas for shoots. Planted my potatoes in old large compost bags with a scattering of FBB and they have gone into the greenhouse and had extra fleece laid over.
I've managed to build and fill 2 new raised beds adding about 8m2 to the veg area. Clearly I'm now itching to get going.
For my birthday hubby bought me a coldframe, which I am using on the raised bed to warm the soil, but even I'm waiting for a couple of weeks to plant in it @Wilderbeast 😆 as long as they don't get too wet they should just wait for it to warm up .😁
I know @purplerallim it's early, thing is I have loads of carrot seed due to the suppliers sending 3 lots of the same order !!!!! I'm thinking I can allow for an failed row or 2 🤣.
I'm seriously going to struggle to hold back now I've made a start sowing 🤣. Can anyone recommend when to sow red cabbage for winter use and celeriac ?
Going this morning to collect anything left in the shed and any plants we’ve grown ourselves that we want to keep!
Unfortunately, although I managed to prove that it was my tunnel and thief had to return it all, police didn’t want to pursue it any further - despite me having found a witness to the theft and proof showing that he’d lied multiple times to the police. So he gets to stay, without any real consequences.
Already found he’d come back and vandalised the inside of it later on.
So we’re leaving. It’s clearly lawless there and terribly “un”-managed by the council.
Nothing to prevent this happening again and it’s not worth the stress it’s putting on us as a family.
