Daughter and I had our first trip this year to David Austin nursery yesterday. Beautiful day for it! Not all the roses were out but still an excellent display and we were able to smell the flowers on all the roses on our short lists because for me the scent is everything! I got Eustacia Vye, Charlotte Bronte and the Ancient Mariner, daughter went for Janes Austin, Olivia Austin and Queen of Sweden. We could have bought another dozen each easily but luckily she only has a small car.
I already have Desdemona and Gertrude Jekyll, worth the thorns for the scent I feel, so just 2 more pink roses and all my half barrels will be full. A wonderful day out I can heartily recommend it.

@debs64 …. sounds like a great day you both had...  I hope you also had time to stop for tea... I've heard their restaurant is rather good... scones etc..

...nice selection of roses... don't be disappointed if they don't do too much in the first year,.. I find they rarely perform well first season... year 2 they start to take off..
You did well !...  and so nice I think to share the day with a relative or close friend..

Love the Gentle Hermione @Marlorena, the petals have a wonderful translucency about them.

Marlorena a question on your Kew Gardens - it has such a lot of blooms, do you deadhead it? If you don’t, does it affect ongoing flowering like most roses or does it just keep going? If you do deadhead, thats a lot of work!!

@Nollie hi Nollie... yes I do deadhead, when the whole cluster has gone over... really, it doesn't take that long, it's not like it's a huge rambler... I try to keep all my roses, even the larger growers, well within arms reach...

@Lizzie27 .. thanks Lizzie.. this is one beautiful rose indeed...

...a quick evening stroll around my vast estate... I've not done the front mixed border as the roses there are a bit behind..
