Dandalions in the lawn

Well mine certainly isn't a lemon. In fact I think it's one of the best garden tools I've invested in. The only thing I can think of is that the design may have changed since I bought mine several years ago. 4.4 out of 5 is 88% happy. Like other people said on the reviews its just so fast. You can walk along, step on a Weed, lever it out and onto the next one, no bending or pulling. Mine  has pulled tap roots the size of wool and also the size of baby carrots with no problem, for years. I should now state that I have no affiliation whatsoever with Fiskars or this product other than being a happy owner!

Thanks for your confirmation. Yes, I think some bad reviews must be just from some odd ones from majority of good ones.

With strength of of your confirmation and experience, I now placed an order for the Fiskars weed puller, and it is on way to me. :)

Great, I'm sure you'll be fine Theleman. It's certainly the fastest and easiest way I've found to remove lots of dandelions and you did say you had many. I'm sure you've seen videos of it in action but one thing I would say is that when you push the tool onto the weed go as deep as possible and when you lever the weed out do it very slowly otherwise you risk snapping the tap root. I'm sure we'll hear of your progress!  :)

I bought the Fiskars tool a couple of weeks ago. It is really fun to use and I would also recommend it. But I've found that it only gets the entire root out about 20% of the time. The other 80% is either a miss or tap root snaps. I feel like the spikes could go a bit deeper.

Perhaps I'm doing it wrong and I'll try and lever more slowly. I'll have another go today once it has stopped raining.

Today would be a good day to do it Timmy. We're getting a real drenching down here at the moment, much needed but it's due to stop this afternoon. I see you're getting it too.

Well the fiskars weed puller arrived within just a few hours of ordering. Amazon prime membership next day delivery really works.

I took it to the lawn as soon as it arrived, and tried pulling the dandalions, and yes it works great. I have pulled out most of them very quickly easily.

I think Timmy is right, that the blade is too short, so it sometimes leaves part of the tap root in the soil. So I had to retry it, and sometimes it works but sometimes it just breaks in the soil. But still it is great that the yellow flower is taken out from the lawn, and it makes the lawn clean.

Another thing is that the puller takes out too much chunk of the soil with the tap root and leaves huge holes. So some top soil or compost must be filled into the holes. Or maybe the earth and grass will do it by themselves fillining in and making look even and flat although it could take some time.

But all in all, it is a great tool, and I wish I bought it earlier. I was a bit dubious of its usefulness and reliability due to some negative reviews, but the reviews are not always 100% right, and in this case they were not.

I am glad that I put up a question for info and advice, and many members came and given out the feedback. And especially Achtung who confirmed positive experience with the Fiskars weed puller from his own use and ownership of the tool.

I think I will have no fear on dandalion problems in my garden from now with the Fiskars weed puller tool. Cheers :)

Great.....2 points.... 1.You need to develop a technique. Like Timmy, I was having a poor success rate at the beginning, I was yanking the weed out rather than teasing it out slowly. 2. When I get the plug, containing the weed out, I grab the taproot and pull the whole weed clear of the plug, then replace the plug in the soil. It would be good if you could post a pic of your new tool and I'll show you mine and maybe we can see if our tools have changed over the years!!! Glad you got the job done!

    Great advice Achtung. Thanks.

Yes, mine was a used one from Amazon Warehouse deal with cheaper price too.  It is a light weight version with light grey handle. Indeed it is really light hardly any weight at all.

It was a used tool with good condition in their description, and when arrived I took it out from the box, and indeed it looked cosmetically not perfect with crack on the top of the handle, and stickers were peeled off, so it looked a bit messy.

But after inspecting the tool closely, I felt that it had not been used at all. Just shop soiled display model or something like that. So it was fine with me, as I paid £25 including shipping instead of £31 for a new one.

I will take some photos of it, and update in here when time available. Thanks again & kind regards :)
