I feel that it was justified to have Liz Bonnin and Steve Backshall on site but Chris could have done his bit from anywhere and used a live feed from the people on the ground in Mexico, they are quick enough to tell others what they should be doing yet feel that they can jet off whenever they like. Another one is Michaela Strachan who I believe lives in South Africa but works mainly in the UK, I wonder how many air miles she clocks up?
They aren't celeb's getting the limelight, but teens and 20's with genuine worries about the way the world is going. Apparently even Heathrow authorities were concerned for them and found them space where they could still be seen but had some shade too. That type of protest will gain far more support than a lovvie flying half way round the world.
No wonder our young people are suffering from depression and anxiety, this is just pumped into them now from babies. They’re frightened. They think their world will end, it won’t!

It's good that these young people are aware of what's going on in the world and yet how many of them carry mobile phones and other electronic devices, do they realise that these too have a negative effect on the planet?
@madpenguin I admire your optimism and I don't wish to sound defeatist. Yes we can all do our bit here in the UK. I try to hang washing out to dry wherever possible rather than using the tumble dryer which my dear wife insists on using as she says the towels are softer. I said 'well what about global warming' and she said 'what about my skin'. Right there is a microcosm of the problem we face, getting people to take global warming seriously.
Sir David Attenborough stated we need drastic changes to the way we live within the next decade. I believe and hold him in the highest regard, but referring back to my statistics regarding China and the US, this problem is way bigger than the UK alone can address. We can try of course and we should otherwise we will be in uncharted territory. In fact we already are, 79f in mid April is not normal but that's becoming the new normal.
If we cut industrial production, start walking to work, eat twigs and bark, dress in sackcloth, why would anyone follow?
That is extreme and I expect no-one would follow. However there are plenty of things we can do. There is a carbon neutral house which could be built right now if the will was there. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-33544831
If everybody just changes small everyday things it would be a start. Even in this last year we have seen attitudes change towards plastic straws, bags, coffee cups, packaging and the momentum needs to be kept up.
...and I don't drive I walk most places, bus if further afield. Not all solutions will suit everyone but we must NOT be defeatest.

And all these thing are being done it doesn't need a demonstration blocking the centre of the capital city tying up police time and costing money to achieve it.

Exactly. Plus, this demonstration was kind of bullying people to accept a particular view - that never works and sometimes produces an opposite effect.
