  • I liked the look of that Chawton Cottage when I looked it up (I look up most of the roses mentioned on here, so I know who they are), looking forward to seeing how it gets on.

I think your roses have done really well Mr Vine Eye. I think my largest ones from last winter are only about 3' and not particularly in relation to eventual size.

Managed to track down my rose delivery at a good neighbour's, I didn't realise they had to be signed for. I'm pleased with them, think they look smashing. Have chucked them back out in the rain until tomorrow.

  • Yes, I think they look pretty fab, lovely smell of earth too when unpacked (which I like).

Not in any order, they are:

    Agnes
    Mrs Oakley Fisher
    Summer Wine
    Ness
    Westerland
    Parkdirektor Riggers
    Gallica officinalis

Nothing special I suppose, but I liked the look/sound of them and hope they'll do ok.

...oh thanks for the list... I think they're all nice roses especially Summer Wine.. always wanted that one..   Monty Don has Agnes... probably some of the others too, he has about 200 roses in his garden, not that he ever shows them much..

  • I don't watch GW to be honest, for no particular reason, but that's interesting, I didn't know Monty Don was into roses.

I have another couple on order and a few on a wish list but I might roll them over until next year now. I already have enough projects to see me into winter.

Went to Scampston today, the gardens were beautiful. Had glorious weather and everything looking wonderfully autumnal.

I had a peek at the roses but most of them weren't flowering - or they had buds opening but no flowers out.

Then I spotted munstead wood - which is one I've ordered, so it was great to see it in the flesh. It was in the middle of the border but I found a spotted a petal from it within reach.

Such a deep colour, and the scent even from this single petal was really strong. Even my OH who usually can't detect rose scents very well thought it smelled lovely.

Looking forward to it even more now!

New babies arrived from Tuincentrum Lottum! Lovely and healthy but a bit dry.

...huge roots !  and prompt despatch it seems..   can't complain about that really... the one on the left looks to be on 'laxa' but I can't tell with the others...

Yes, despatched promptly and delivered quickly (shipped on Friday, delivered today). Nice roots and canes too. All are grafted but I don't know how to tell on what, so here is another photo for a better look at them. All got a drink for now and will be planted later this week.

..that's nice... I think most of those are laxa but I  might question the very top one, it looks different to what I'm used to seeing... what is that top one by the way? because it has lots of canes - really good !.. although they all are...
