Hi all. Another lovely day, but no sleep again, so I think I shall be reclining in the garden, rather than working in it. Hope I am wrong, but I get the feeling that the world is at some sort of tipping point, which we might not recover from.
Think we’ve still got time to act Pdoc....but we have to do something NOW. One of the reasons the “B” word frustrates me so much, is that we have spent 3 years thinking about nothing else......and its only an organisational thing. Like fiddling with the deck chairs on the Titanic 🙁. We should be leading the way......ditching coal power is a good start, ramp up renewables even more, show the world that 100% renewables is eminently possible (the chinese might follow, they might like to breathe in their cities again 😷), electrify transport and heating, and change our diets so that meat is a treat, not a staple. That’s ALL do-able.......but needs some leadership, which is currently woefully lacking.
Oops, I seem to have gone on a rant 🤭
And what have our government just done last month? Cancel the feed in tariffs for solar panels. So we buy panels, generate clean , renewable energy and then donate unused power to the energy companies so THEY can sell it for a profit? Why not make it MORE attractive for folk to invest in solar power? Given the fact it was the tories who asset stripped the country and sold it off in the first place , we shouldn't be surprised. You just couldn't make this stuff up could you?
Dreadful about Sri Lanka and Notre Dame. The former is more tragic I think because it was committed by people against people and so many lives were lost.
It is not religion itself, it is human beings who cause the damage. Christianity preaches love and peace, yet people do the opposite. The vast majority of Moslems are horrified by the violence people do in the name of their religion. If it weren't in the name of religion violent people would find another cause.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Yes, they would, but probably not something that sustains, feeds and incites violence and intolerance in quite the same organised and "legitimised by god" or "in the name of the prophet" way.
We all know Christianity is supposed to be about love and peace but tell that to the idiots that visit violence "for the good of your soul". It's my soul and my choice. Same with Islam but someone forgot to tell it to those radical imams who are themselves uneducated and simply learn bits of the Koran by rote then incite people to go and be suicide bombers. Suicide and killing women and children are condemned in the Koran but not in the bits they've read.
It's hot here and sunny and we've been to see the gardens at Annevoie. Lots of Flemish about and lots of kids cos there's an Easter egg hunt going on. The first time we went was over a decade ago and the restoration of the gardens and chateau are coming on apace. It's known for its water features - lots of spouts and fountains all fed by gravity. Photos later. Flopsies now and maybe a stroll along the Meuse and Sambre later on.
Pat - sometimes doing nothing is really hard but, in this case, it's good for you. Make sure you sit on Mr Pat if he shows signs of going anywhere near a fire or the station.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Well my blood pressure must be sky high. They finished clearing all the Orchard next door, the big Rosa filipes has gone. The odd tree fell in the wrong direction and I have a dead rowan in the Cornus Kousa, I threw back the hazel from the veg patch. The cherry came down and smashed into the compost heaps and magnolia. The patch at the top of my garden is now a wood pile. No they didn't ask. Now I am really angry. The gorillas wielding the chainsaws just laughed when I said they were smashing down my shrubs. It'll be all right. No it flaming won't.
Bit more mulching done here too, before the sun came out properly at about 1 😎. Very satisfying 😀
Agree with you on solar Feed-in-tariffs @Hostafan1 .....they might not be the best way of incentivising them, but they should have got an alternative in place before they turned off the old scheme ....ludicrous.
Clouded over a bit here now, so in with my feet up and a cuppa ☕️
