@wild edges l bank with FD as well, and l have a paying in book. Very useful for the odd cheque that comes my way, and l just send them to FD in the post. Might be worth contacting them to see if you can get one?

There's no banks around here anymore. I use First Direct so at least I can do bank stuff at the Post Office. Apart from cheques of course...
Now I understand your problem.  Just been looking on line and it claims there that you can pay in cheques to First Direct in Post Offices.  Maybe that only means main Post Offices not little 'uns in village shops and the like.

I know I’m a pedant, but I really am so irritated that even ‘good’ newspapers are now using the phrase ‘went extinct’ 😡 as in ‘the bird went extinct’ ... it’s grammatically incorrect and what is even worse, it sounds ugly.

The bird became extinct, for goodness sake 😡

I was kind of hoping to be asleep by now :|
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

"rising to a crescendo" ! The "crescendo" is the rising part. It should be "rising to a climax" .
