We've been in this garden for 12 years and I've never caught them before actually eating the clematis buds - I was blaming the sparrows!

Well, now you know.   I hope you've apologised to the sparrows.   Now to work out how to save your clematis flowers.  Maybe distract them with a purpose built squirrel gym and a peanut reward at the end?

No need to apologise to the sparrows.  The little gits will definitely have them if nothing beats them to it.

Mixed NHS experience this week. Yesterday we had an appointment at the new hospital. Parking was easy and free, and the consultation was really helpful and worthwhile. Today we had an appointment at the old hospital. The parking was a complete nightmare, and the consultation was pointless and rather patronising. A staff member was even complaining it took her over 40 minutes to find a parking space. The parking has been a mess there for years and nothing is being done about it. You can't park nearby and walk so why they can't just work out a park and ride system or even a better public transport from the main town carpark I don't know. My wife is due to give birth there so I'm sure she'll be thrilled to have a 40 minute tour of the car park followed by a long walk come the time :#
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Unless she's having a planned cesarean, maybe just happen to be driving by the new place when she goes into labour?   Bypass the old place and its problems?

Speaking of the NHS.  I went for X-rays on Good Friday.  When I phoned to make the appointment they said "We're staffed every day so we might as well use the time for appointments even if it is a Bank Holiday".  Good for them I say.

I called in to the GP surgery to see if the xray results had come back and was told they had and I needed to make an appointment to see the doctor.  No worry there as it's only hip xray for arthritis.  Told I can get in next Thursday (good for our surgery it's normally about 3 to 4 weeks), but was then told that the doctor would have to phone me with a time because then manage their own appointment diaries!  So now, instead of phoning and holding in a queue for up to half an hour, we now have to phone and hold in the queue, and then be available for the doctor to call us back at some indeterminate time in the future to arrange the time.  Ain't progress wonderful.

Precisely!  It makes no sense at all.  My missus had an appointment today which is why I was there to check for my xrays.  The doctor asked why she was seeing her when the procedure required is normally done by a nurse.  When my wife explained, the doctor said 'Oh, I haven't had time to read your notes'.  Not surprised when they are doing un-necessary admin.

Update on the above.  Dr called me this morning to discuss the x-ray and asked me if the hip was bad enough to require surgery.  Isn't that something for them to determine?  Just that question, nothing about how far can I walk etc.  No mention of the cortisone injections which he said I needed last time until I asked about them.  Absolute farce.
