So it was you Marran that took the last packet of seeds that Dobbies had on offer!! Yes I also saw them in Sarah Raven's catalogue, I guess I should have ordered from her, or Dobies should have stated sold out on their ordering system maybe. Thanks for the extra information Johnny, I have a feeling that these plants are grown more in the USA - there were plenty of American sites selling the seeds. Thanks for all the input.  I will have a think of what to do next if the seeds don't turn up in a week or two.
Not guilty! My order was in on 8th March :#  Not sure how I'll get on with germination - they are in my heated propagator.  Crocus sell plug plants - 60 large plugs £24.99 (less GW discount of course).  Thought about ordering from there and selling the surplus :D:)
  • That's interesting Marran, although I don't want 60 just half a dozen would be fine.  I think Monty said 3 in a large pot would be enough.  I have grown red pentunia flowering petunias before - they were decimated in the rain, so hoping (if I manage to get some seed) that this doesn't happen again.  Gardening is all about trial and error - more error than success here sometimes - apart from my beetroot (and a few other successes).
  • I am pleased to say that my Petunia Tidal Wave seeds arrived today, there is just approx a dozen seeds in a little phial. Tomorrow they will be sown in a module tray and treated like gold.

@kaperna I originally sowed the seed in jiffy pellets (the white "mesh" is on the pellets to keep their shape when they re-hydrate).  I popped them into 3" pots about 10 days ago.  Their roots grow through the mesh.  I'd not used jiffy pellets before  - I thought I would eliminate the pricking out by putting in a bit of extra time by planting one seed per pellet  :-)

Got mine from Dobies two weeks ago.  No sign of any growth until yesterday, when some microscopic shoots appeared.  It’s the first time I’ve received seeds in a test tube.  Why are they so precious about it. Are the seeds hard to collect from Petunia’s?
  • I can't answer that KeenOnGreen, but I am pleased to hear from you that your seeds have germinated.  Did you have them in a warm environment or directly outside?
I am planning on sowing my seeds in the next day or two - we have no sunshine and it is only around 10 - 15 degrees in our cold GH at the moment.  Did you water the seeds after sowing them?
I have never received seeds in a test tube either. I had googled them and most of the sites were American based.
Trust Monty to show us something that is difficult to find ..... and in short supply too!

If those tiny seeds were lose in a packet you wouldn’t see them, they stick to the sides of the packet and you could easily miss them,  Ive had other seeds in dispensers.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
