Why are English burgers so bad or you? Here in France burgers are plain minced lean beef, no additives. I buy the 5% at ones in the SM. Don't know if McDonalds ones are the same though.

No, they're not. Far too likely to have mechanically recovered meat and a high fat content. I love French and Belgian burgers in proper restaurants where you can choose the breed of cattle and the add-ons such as bacon, cheese, apple, onions etc depending on the style.

As for people having more sense, in poorer areas especially, they either don't know how to cook or have no facilities and know nothing about nutrition so eat take-away. Look round any poor urban area and all the shops are betting shops or cheap and greasy take-aways. It's what Hugh F-W discovered when he was trying to get Newcastle to lose weight and is a major reason for poor health and the obesity and diabetes 2 epidemic.

It's not the burger itself, it's the other stuff that goes with it, eg according to MacDonalds website, a big mac bacon is 610 calories, 33g fat and but only 170 calories, 12g fat is the actual burger. The rest is the bread, cheese, bacon, sauce etc. Then there's the fries and soft drinks that most people seem to buy alongside their burger. And of course they promote the larger sizes of everything.
Supermarket burgers run the whole range from lean minced beef to goodness knows what in the cheap ones.

The facts are given in schools @Busy-Lizzie but not the application. So they know all the info but no one teaches them how to use it. At home the present parents were not taught well so if their parents didn't teach them no one did, so how are kids now supposed to learn. At university my daughter ( now 35) was in a group of 8 of which only two could cook. This has continued with friends not knowing how to boil an egg never mind bake a cake, and as to how to cook a fish ....
Cookery at my school (mid 70s to mid 80s) consisted only of few things that I already knew how to make (rock buns and suchlike, not exactly a balanced diet). I was shown the basics by my Mum, Nan and Granny, along the lines of "come and help with this", and the rest I picked up as I went along.
