What do you eat Logan4, tell me, all, yes you are correct potatoes count as "starch carb", sweet potatoes count as veg. Fidgetbones, highly qualified nurse practitioner, who took us for Health and Safety manuel handling was at least 20 stone, we were terrified to mention words like overweight, obese, it was a nightmare.  One year, am sitting next a ward mate,in the front row, said practitioner comes over is wearing a marilyn munro type dress halter neck, VERY large boobs, we were in danger of suffocation, and trying desparately not to laugh!  She also had 6 inches heels on, whilst, telling us off about our clothing, shoes, the way we were sitting etc.

@Nanny Beach for  breakfast i have porridge and a bit of oat bran made water.A few blueberries, raspberries
    A large strawberry, half a plum,half a peach,half a nectarine,half  a pear,
Red,white and  black grapes about 12.

For lunch i'll have a banana and Apple.

Dinner have some sort of meat but not a lot with 2 pieces of potatoes, half a sweet potato,
Cabbage, peas, carrots and sprouts with bisto gravy but no fat added.
Sometimes have celeriac or Swede instead of  carrots. Not very keen on sweet potato and celeriac so i mix it with the potatoes.

Friday's have a few oven chips with 2 eggs and  baked beans.

Saturday's have wholemeal toast with  baked beans and tinned tomatoes.

Tuesday's have  salad with fish, baked potato cooked in the microwave and sweetcorn.

Logan is that first list one sitting with the porridge?  As I said before its the portion sizes that get me, 80g of raw cabbage is a lot! Sorry Peter, healthy as they re those seeds arent part of your 5/7/10 fruit and veg.  I love stir fry Hubby hates it,(he doesnt like salad, or many veg) I usually buy it "ready" chopped, dont berate me folks, if I bought all the individual ingredients, (unless I have my own home grown that is) it would take me a month to get through them, they would be "off" by then.  The usual size in say Sainsburys takes me 3 days to eat.We go to a local carvery have what is called the smaller plate, or lighter bite, (depending which carvery) the plate is bigger than a side plate, smaller than   main plates, you get 2 large slices of meat, as much veg as you want, there is always 6-8 to chose from, plus stuffing and yorkshire puddings which are the size of a side plate!  The other day the waitress said people had complained about ther size of these portions, so they are now calling them "childrens" portions.  Which doesnt bother me, some places will happily let you have a childrens meal, but not all. What average eateries these days call a kids portion, I cant eat.  When my Hubby and I have take away fish and chips, its small cod, small chips, and then we dont eat all the chips.

When I was a waitress I noticed a lot of older people won’t eat a big portion and our chef was always happy to provide a small portion at a reduced price or serve a starter as a main with maybe a few chips or bread. I don’t know whether appetites decrease with age or maybe older people weren’t constantly stuffed with huge portions growing up so have a better idea of what’s normal!
  • I think portion size is the main problem.  If you look it up its horrifying how much bigger our portions have become. Anyway I'm veggie  so definitely  get my 5+ a day but I have to be careful  it's veg and not fruit that I  snack on . All that natural fruit sugar is still sugar!

I was veggi for over 20 years, and even then I didnt get the portion size of what was expected, its just too big.  My portion sizes havent kept up, I enjoy these diet programmes and cannot believe what some people eat, and then wonder why they are so big. I am still going to have my smoothies for breakfast, and sorry they arent going to be made up of sprouts and peas.  I have always said I think my stomach is the size of a walnut, even if I am really hungry.  Went to town the other day it was 2.30, we hadnt eaten since breakfast very hungry went in a cafe I had a latte,Hubby orange, ordered a piece of cake each, ended up taking his home, and abut 7 I had a tiny portion of beans on toast.

I mostly eat a mediterranian diet. Fruit as a snack between meals, side salads with olives, toms, red onion, peppers etc with my main meal. Then breakfast which is just porridge and toast. Then a main meal which is usually something with chicken cooked in seasoning/marinade etc and some veg. I try to avoid processed meats as well as red meats as i don't personally feel they do you any good. My main food weakness is dessert, i love chocolate and baked goods etc lol.

@Nanny Beach yes the first list porridge and fruit is 1 sitting, yes have to be careful with the size of portions. I try and keep the processed meats to the minimum. I don't eat sausages but have 2 rashes of bacon once a fortnight, It's a bit like a Mediterranean diet except we don't like olive oil, have sunflower oil to cook with.
Should eat red meat because it has iron in it but not a lot.

Maybe this should go in the ‘Curmudgeonly’ post, but I find hearing about other people’s dietary habits is like listening to them recounting their dreams - zone out time.
