I have a theory that folk head to the GC after winter and see forsythia and ribes sanguineum in flower and buy them. I can't think why anyone would spend money on either. I've got them both here inherited when we moved in. I accept they're early food sources for bees,( that's why they're still there ) but there must be nicer food sources.
I love my (inherited) forsythias at this time of year, but I don't like to see them clipped into cubes, blobs, lollipops etc. To my eye the colour isn't harsh - it's just about the same shade as my tete-a-tete daffs (maybe they're tasteless as well ). I have planted clematis to grow into the forsythias for the summer. We'll see how that goes.
