I have had a lazy morning reading and snuggling with 3 of the critters whilst bathed in sunshine.  That meant I was late getting the news about May's latest breathtakingly shameful speech which seems to be polarising events towards No Deal which is just so bad whatever your views on the EU.   Anyone signing that UK e-petition to revoke Article 50?

I should be painting but am not sure I could hold a brush straight at the mo.

On a more positive note, NZ's PM has behaved with admirable dignity and their parliament is now going to push thru bans on automatic weapons and assault rifles and more.   Good.  USA take note.

Some bright spark has done research which says productivity and general well-being are higher in people whose work spaces include greenery.   Doh!

Wonky - our gravel is not nice, polite, well-behaved Japanese shingle.   It is broken volcanic rock fragments resulting from blasting in the quarry about 2kms away.  Being neighbours, we can have it free if we can transport it and a previous owner clearly had a big trailer............   It's horrid stuff.  We have strimmed it, sprayed it, burned it with a flame thrower weeder...........  lasts about 5 minutes.

Can't be raked in its current weed-riddled state and is always going to have enough teeny bits of dust to harbour weed seeds.  Google earth's satellite has been past again since we had the potager ploughed but before we had the pond cleared so the gravel is not looking immaculate any more.  We'll get it sorted, one day.

Mayem's whole US presidential style: press waiting, her walking up the the lectern was vomit inducing and that was before she opened her mouth.
Basically she seemed to be saying , " don't blame for wasting everyone's time for the last 2 1/2 years and coming up with a sh*tty deal, blame those nasty MPs for not agreeing to my sh*tty deal".
News reports I've heard this morning seem to suggest she's shot herself in the foot yet again.

    Hi all.
We have spent a lovely few hours at RSPB Old Moor, fairly spring like, Blackthorn in full Blossom and lots of amorous birds around.
    Hope hubby is recovering @WonkyWomble
Hope you are ok @Lily Pilly

Sounds good @punkdoc, glad you had a nice day out. I can see the blackthorn blossom in the wood opposite here.

    Hello all.

Went to the hairdresser this morning, bit shorter than usual, but never mind, means I won't have to go again for a bit.

Spent the afternoon gardening, pruned roses and weeded and made a bed bigger, all ready for re-planting. Gave the tiling tile grouting a break, nearly finished anyway.

Volunteer day at Capel today, spring is definitely springing there, the cherries are out in the Japanese garden and even the Acers are beginning to stir, seem to be ahead of mine at home.

This magnolia is not fully out yet but it's a stunning colour.
Not sure what is happening but I don't seem to be able to download a picture!

    Hello all!

I love pussy willow and this year seems to be a bumper one...  there were honey bees on it too, which is a bonus.  That's under the railway viaduct in the centre of my town.   :)

Your gravel sounds horrible, Obelixx.  Is it too large an area to start again with something less high maintenance?  Gravel isn't as easy to maintain as you'd think, I reckon, even when it comes in smart bags from the builders' merchant - mine had a lot of sand in it, providing a wonderful seedbed for (at the moment) about 30 sycamore seedlings to the square metre... but at least there's membrane underneath and I can pull them out.

We had a very productive morning in the park, barrowing and spreading manure over the new bed we cleared last time.  The robin was very appreciative... and we had good news, that our volunteers have been awarded £340 by the Town Council to buy plants for the park.  I suspect it won't go as far as we'd like it to, so we'll need to plan carefully.  One of our number who has a greenhouse is starting to sow a lot of the perennial seeds you lot kindly sent me; we'll get going with the annuals when we're sure it's warm enough.

Those cyclones look dreadful, Pat.  Hope people get out in time... bad memories for you, though, I guess.

Spotted your grant on the good news thread.   Maybe use the council money to buy things like perennials or statement plants like shrubs that can form a permanent backbone?

Haven't measured it but the gravel area is large - and not exactly level.  This is it when we bought it in July 2016.  There is more to the right.

Plan A was a Beth Chatto style dry garden which may still happen in parts.   Lots of other stuff to do first.   Also have to be careful about the septic tank and waste cleaning system under this front left corner..........

Sounds like you've had a productive day BL.  Lots going on.   Sounds like a good day for you too Pdoc.  Good.

Pat, I hope those cyclones give you a miss.  Looks nasty.

Tired now.  Busy day and dance class so probably an early night for me.
