If it is D. bholua, and it looks from the pic to be a decent size, I would say it suggests there might be all sorts of other treasures to come :)
Most of us can't even afford a baby one :(
    My thoughts too. Wow!

That's one splendid Daphne! I'm envious - they don't grow well here.

  • I'm so glad now that I took everyone's advice to leave the garden alone for the next year looks like I might have some surprises to come.

I assume the only way to confirm exactly what plant you have is to have them identified genetically?

    I don't even know if that's possible!
As far as I know plant breeders etc choose the varieties cultivars that they name and propagate from many many crosses between parent plants, and of course some varieties arise from accidental/natural variation.  I'd be very surprised if many plant varieties/cultivars have been genetically sequenced.

  • For most of us, such precision doesn't really matter...  I'd be happy just to know that I have a Mahonia, probably M.japonica, which flowers in late winter/early spring.  You can get cultural information, pruning advice etc from here or from the Internet.

For what it's worth, I think you probably have Daphne bholua 'Jacqueline Postill' there, you lucky lady.   :)  Bet it smells divine...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Yes I recently paid £13 for a small one and thought it a good bargain! Enjoy!
  • There are two or three in the same area just at the edge of the trees it was the scent of the Daphne that caught me first before I even saw the plants it was just divine in the warm sun.
Shame that they are so far from the house :(
  • Sounds like the ideal spot for one of the several garden seats your garden is going to need  :)

Hi all I'm sorry it's been such a long time but I have been very busy with my studies and arranging chambers for later in the year the garden has had to take a bit of a back seat.

The house is coming along really well I wont bore you with all the pictures I'm sure no one want's to a load of muscular builders with there shirts off ;);)

Anyway I was on site today and found this growing out in the garden / builders yard  :) can anyone give it a name please?? and is it a plant or weed?

I will keep it whatever but depending on weed or plant will make a difference to where it ends up.

    Thank you P.K 👩🏻‍🎓
