Finally got around to planting the french beans.
Pulled some radishes for the hubby's lunch, they are whoppers ( GC bought starts to tide him over till my seeds are ready) I always thought that big would be woody, but seem not.🤷‍♀️

Saw GWRS and thought I was in the allotment thread 🤔🤦‍♀️😊 re above comment.
In the GARDEN  planted Schizanthus grown from seed, coleus from cuttings taken overwinter, and six trays of bedding plants.  Plus potted up the hanging basket with a few bits bought from a local village plant sale ( in the village where your allotment is @GWRS hence the slip) , and planted sweet peas.
So that's three tubs from scratch,  five tubs added bits to, two troughs,  one hanging basket,  and two beds now planted up.😅😅😅

Had visitors this weekend so not much gardening was done, did go to the garden centre and bought a beautiful clematis ‘blushing bridesmaid’ and a deep purple rhododendron, moved an anemone to plant the clematis and added an obelisk for it to grow up, planted the anemone on the other side of the border, potted on the rhododendron because they’re always rootbound, was very dry so gave it a good drink too. Cut back the evergreen honeysuckle that had awful powdery mildew, hopefully it will regrow!

Also assembled a new to me cold frame and as is tradition sliced my finger on it, quite painful!! Planted out my dahlias on friday too, so managed to squeeze a fair bit in!!

Spent most of the day power washing (with the help of my son) the Indian Sandstone paving all round the house. There's a lot of it. A very noisy, mucky job and I was sorry for the neighbours but needs must. Need to finish the lower level tomorrow. Then the plan is to buy some FastFix mortar to brush into the joints where the old mortar has cracked. I gather this new stuff is silicone based and does a fantastic job - fingers crossed. It does say it's water permeable but I don't see how that can be true?

Started on my next bed in the back garden.

Lots of thick blocks of clay to break up and lots of roots to pull out.

Sowed some more lettuce seeds, planted out the first dwarf french beans, sowed some radish (again), tied up the globes (they always collapse but already we have had 8 globes), sowed some carrots in the polytunnel (wont germinate outdoors!!!), cut back bluebells stems and other seed heads, removed unwanted (but still lovely plants) from paving slabs.

Why is it that the most beautiful colours of Antirrhinum or Aquilegia are invariably in the paving cracks and not in the beds lovingly made for them @bertrand-mabel 🙄😡

Nipped out front for an hour before the rain arrives, to cut down a Photinia ‘Red Robin’ which died suddenly while I was away on holiday for 3 weeks.  No idea why and I didn’t notice if it was ailing beforehand.

I'm leaving the stump for the summer to see if it re-generates like the one in the back did a few years ago.  Fingers crossed.

of course I now have a large space in the flower bed and I can see where the Photinia impacted on neighbouring shrubs, causing them to lose leaves or become mis-shapen.

oops, sorry for long post !
