Spent the afternoon potting on seedlings, certainly need some guidance on compost for seedlings mine seems to hang onto water way to much, can this cause basal rot.
Also made another frame for some large trays as space is tight.
We spent four hours or so trying to entice two potbound Agapanthus out of their pots - really hard work and wish I hadn't bothered. Had to use my mini-mattock and a saw in the end and just hacked them out. Potted up a couple of bits again but into black plastic pots I can just drop into the larger terracotta pots. Hopefully I'll never have to do that particular job again.
I purchased my lovely lady two dozen roses on valentines day some are still doing very well after nearly a month, I spotted a few with some side growth so decided on trying some cuttings from the remains .
made another frame to fit some Tomatoe trays for seedlings and cuttings, also a globe I made earlier, still have have a busy month to get the new garden unto scratch for the ladies big birthday.
Good I'm glad you've done it Lizzie27. Lovely flowers MrMow.
I had a good day in the garden. I'm making a new perennial bed, a large one, at the front of the house, raised and built up with very large stones that I'm helping myself to from the wood at the side of me. It's stone that has been thrown over into the wood from the field at the side over many years.
I then had to fill the bed with top soil and well rotted manure. By heck, I'll have a sore back tomorrow. And it's my garden volunteer stint as well.
A couple of hours pruning and shredding this afternoon - Buddleia, Cotinus, roses (a bit late), hardy fuchsias (a bit early but they've already started into growth so I think they'll be OK) and some old perennial stalks while I had the shredder out - asters, helianthus, echnops and suchlike. Yesterday I cut the grass (high setting and planted two dozen pots of what I hope will be Thalia daffs to join last year's. I notice there's an agapanthus that's more than ready for a bigger pot so that'll be a job for next weekend. I might split it and put some in the ground.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
I ripped out the old fashion fireplace last year and the fire surround has found a new life in the garden, I have two smaller pieces from the side so will put these to use shortly.
A pretty busy week overall but on schedule, the new fence is in and the paths have been leveled up, need some heat now to make over the lawn, and need to lay out the borders from all the cuttings and plants we saved in pots.
As for seedlings I have an insane amount, but any left overs will raise money for our charity collection.
The old fire place surround with a bit of metal work by me, very happy with the out come. Excuse the trays I am collecting up as many pots and trays I can find.
