Gave my daughter a car full of of plants I'd potted up for her - she's got a garden at last! Rather tired today so just wandered around after she'd gone home, taking photos and deadheading the daffs. Must fleece the wisteria and a favourite clematis later.
Finally, after what seems like weeks, planted grass seed on now redundant flower beds. It's been a plan to reduce workload, but digging out, moving/relocating plants, weeding, levelling, rolling, topsoiling, watering ..... gosh it's been an effort. Hopefully it'll get easier from now on. Astonishing how far roots from shrubs seem to travel.
Now I just hope the birds don't eat all the seed. 😅

Watered the cannas and salvias that are waking up in the new greenhouse, there are just a few canna shoots coming through. Painted the last 10mt of fence, we started this last year then production of the paint was stopped in lockdown. Went round removing dandelions from the beds, they along with creeping buttercup, marestail and couch grass (known as wickens in these parts) keep me busy. Divided up a supermarket basil pot to try and get them going, there sat on a heated pad so should take ok.
@Songbird-1 yes they are all salvias that I lifted out of the beds Black and Blue is the variety. We lost nearly all ours and this was our 2nd year lifting. I grew loads of cuttings to restock and have about 15 large plants now. I'll put mine out about the end of April, they can stand a little frost, it's more the combination of frost, cold winds and damp ground that we struggled with.
Salvias , I’ve a hot lips one at allotment that I just leave in the ground and give it a prune Saturday cut front lawn and did edges Sunday at allotment Today , although sun shining it’s very windy , other than watering pots may not do much in garden
Dug one Conifer stump out, tiring to say the least. Then set to the big one. Half a metre by quarter of a metre at least for the base. A big bulge at the base of the more normal shaped and sized stump that was the real trunk. Dug out a big root the size of your arm. We pulled a metre length out from the trunk as it was near the surface. Still had to cut or it would have ripped up the lawn.
We've been going from 11am and only just come in. Had a brunch before starting so just worked through. Then towards the end gave up and checked out a stump in the rear garden then cut a few things back and tidied up. There's too much to do as we've just moved in.
I think we'll give up on the stumps and leave it to the tree surgeon we plan to get it to take a couple of trees down. We could brute strength and ignorance the large lump of a trunk out but TBH I'm not in a fit state to do it with one damaged arm in a sling. Still, happy I managed to get the smaller stump out with my partner. Foot plus diameter so not that small.
Right now gardening is cutting down and tidying up. One upcoming task is to pull out the wild garlic, bluebells, etc that have spread into the gravel paths. I think it'll be a long time until we're planting anything? It's still all gardening right??!!
Planted up some cardoon seedlings today. I've always loved how the ones in a relative's garden are so adored by the bees, so now that I have my own garden, I had to have some! What's more, they will (eventually) add some height and drama to a very boring corner of the garden that needed a bit of scale and impact to draw the eye. Can't wait for them to get into their stride!
I also sowed some carrot seeds a few days ago (globe & short types, as our soil is full of stones and rubble), and some have already germinated and put on their first initial leaves. It always makes me happy to see things starting to grow.

Did a little bit of dead heading, watered the pots and planters, and harvested some sage and chives for my mum.

Cut the lawn
Dug out some weeds
Moved some pots
Trimmed a shrub I like but can’t recall what it is, so hoping usual rules apply
Harvested safe and chives
Noticed for the first time the fritillaries are out
