Added 6 inches of shredded paper on top of the compost bin to help it stay insulated and warm inside.
Pleased that none of the 7 itinerant moggies that live nearby have been observed sitting on it. Hopefully means that the existing heat is staying inside.
“Rivers know this ... we will get there in the end.”
I had a walk up the road and gave some neighbours some purple alliums and a few snowdrops. My alliums seem to be multiplying like mad, and I had already planted all I want, and the snowdrops are a bit congested and some are lying on the surface. Other than that, the birds seem to be getting through a lot of food. No snow here, just freezing fog.
Have just ordered 2 raised beds. This year will see my first attempts at veg growing. Also have some large containers I can use. Next job will be looking at what compost to use to fill them with.
Managed to shift 1 barrow load of compost to the raised veg bed today and did some weeding from the existing veg bed
@Yviestevie it's my 2nd year on veg, last year was a bit half hearted. My new raised bed which is over river silt has 8" homemade compost and being topped up with bought multipurpose compost for a finer surface texture. The greenhouse will be the same when it arrives. I'm going No dig, well it's all the fashion this year 🤣🤣🤣
I might try more raised beds again, in previous attempts they always ended up compacted , probably didn't put enough compost on top, but it's hard to get enough to do it on a full size plot.
I currently don't make my own compost. Space is at a premium in my garden but I have been thinking how I could do this. Are those hot bin type things any good. I suffer from arthritis so whatever I do needs to be easy on the back, wrists and shoulders.
In a small garden I don't think its worth giving up the space @Yviestevie and the hot bins are fabulously expensive to my mind. You could buy in quite a large quantity for that money.

Miserable week at the darkest time, so time for some upcheering.
It will get a specially large dose of Creme de Cassis.
