I spent a chunk of time on Tuesday planting bulbs. Not sure if it may have been a bit late for them, but as I had them free from work last week (about £80 worth), so it was worth a shot!
Not really gardening but I have been going through the seeds, I think I have quite a lot I can use this season so won't have to order so much this time.
Preparing the garden for spring - Gardener's delight: a trailer load of ripe horse manure now unloaded and neatly spread over the veggie garden and some flower patches. Now waiting for rain this weekend to soak it all in. Bliss!
Dug up the last of the carrots, a few parsnips and cut a stick of brussels for the weekend. Still have beetroot, kale, kohlrabi and savoy cabbage going out there. Chard too badly frosted to use though.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
During the week, I have bought some seeds (borage, eccanachea and corn flowers) I have been through my seed box and I have plenty to use for when I start sowing them in spring. I planted some sea holly seeds in mid December and I have noticed this morning one seed has germinated (it has the 2 little seed leaves) It is only small and dainty so I will be keeping an eye on it.
This morning I have been down to the compost heap to add kitchen scraps to it. This lid is frozen shut so I slipped and slided back to the house with my full caddy of scraps. I noticed someone has been on my flower beds and dug up my bulbs so I collected them up and I have popped them back in the ground (which was quite difficult as the ground was frozen hard).
