@Allotment Boy indeed I think it would be far safer if everything could close, unfairly though shops like B&Q can open (hardwares stores can open to serve the building industry) but smaller places cant

The boss of the hardy plants section of the GC where I used to work, is quite ill with Covid.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Thanks @GWRS.  I guess it's a potential hazard for anyone working in retail.

  • I actually did some gardening today.  I took out a Hydrangea that had died some time ago,  planted a variegated Fatsia in it's place.  Also started to remove leaves from the Helibores to reveal the flowers.  I know the books say, you can remove all the old leaves but I like to do it in stages so they still have something to  photo synthesise with,  especially as one of the main clumps is under an Acer so it's in deep shade half the year.  Also did a bit of weeding,  does bittercress ever stop growing?

Finally got out in the garden for a short while today.  I've pruned the 4 small acers and the Sambuca Black Lace.  So much to do but it's just too cold.  As other posters have said it's not good for the arthritis so it will all have to wait until it warms up just a bit. Glad to hear the the injuries are improving @Wilderbeast@Gardengirl.. so sorry to hear about your chooks, it must be very upsetting.

OH works on a Garden centre site ... they are  are open ... deemed essential ... as they were back in March. However I believe some have chosen not to open or to open fir reduced hours ... at this time of year a large proportion of their customers are mainly for the GC restaurants and they have to be closed.
