Sunny here but the wind is really strong so not planning on doing any gardening today. It's supposed to hail later so fingers crossed for no damage.

Dangerously windy here so just surveyed the garden and turned the heap.

The edging I’d used on the front garden has snapped in the wind

I think I’m going to have to spend money on the garden this year, I can’t do it all myself and the front fence has been out for three months awaiting a new one.

Currently in the middle of a very radical garden makeover, all brought about by purchase of a new greenhouse which is to be set up on the 27th - exciting!  So far, over the past 3 weeks we've taken down trellises, moved shrubs and perennials, and removed shrubs.  I've cleared back the undergrowth behind our fence under a line of trees and I've managed to plant a few new shrubs to re-divide bits of the garden.  We've emptied the old greenhouse (a converted summerhouse) and containers etc are stowed in a sheltered area (very high winds today) fronted by the heavy patio table and the shed is filled with other stuff.  The garage is housing 2 homemade benches which won't suit the new g/h so they're ready to take to a friend who needs them for her brand new shed.  Today, in between hail/rain showers we have dashed out so that Himself could prune the crab apple and I've hard pruned dwarf buddlejas, dwarf hypericums and a dwarf potentilla.  Survey of the garden shows my 3 astilbes have now shown tiny shoots so I know where to dig to uproot them and move them to under the new buddleja.  Also managed to pinpoint the hostas to divide so that I can put bits around the new Prunus Lusitanica.  Had to rush in again because of more hail but we are feeling proud of ourselves so far!

lydiaann , exciting getting a new g/h , lots to do , best of luck for the 27th , are you putting up ?

  • Day off from gardening on Sundays, so we walked around the field trying to name some of the almost flowering wild flowers.  I think I will be asking for help with that in a week or two. Planning jobs for the coming week, sowing, moving, planting and generally keeping on top of things, just hope the weather keeps dry and warms up a tad.

No, GWRS.  It's a man who is recommended by the greenhouse company.  Luckily, he lives really near by so there's no huge amounts of travelling for him and Himself will assist with the 'grand build', so it shouldn't take a huge amount of time.  We will have fun, instead, pulling down the old summerhouse/greenhouse!

Such a lot happening because of the - until this week - fantastic weather.  Everyone I speak to is saying the same thing "must get out in the garden"!

    Happy Spring Forking to all!!

Still working on the retaining walls for the new patio, planted out some lettuce and rocket, cut down old stems of verbena, moved some allium bulbs, pricked out chilli and Cerinthe seedlings and planted an akebia... so sick of the wind!
