I am also a curmudgeonly old biddy, I don’t give cash.  If I like the charity, I will send a cheque.
The last time I donated to shelter box, I did it through PayPal, I won’t be again, they took 6 weeks to get the money through and I was told that it may not be the chosen charity that receives it.
I asked PayPal if I could cancel the transaction but they said it had gone through.

Ive just received the latest raffle tickets from Red Cross, has anyone ever won ?
I’ve  got piles of tickets here from various charities, I have a sort out every so often and through them away, I’ve never won anything.

Those raffle tickets drive me nuts ! Gawd knows how much it costs to print them all (plus the address labels, but l admit l find those useful !). I used to buy say 2 or 3 tickets and send those back, needless to say l never won and these days l put them straight into the recycling. I used to post the envelopes straight back marked "Return to sender" and "Please remove from mailing list", but to no avail. At Christmas for the last few years, l have had stuff from the Red Cross, Christmas cards, pens, bookmarks and coasters. Even though l assume they are getting a good deal it must still cost them money. I wonder if the returns they get are worth it, they must be?

I give happily when I see collection tins for RNLI or Mountain Rescue.  Although I'm unlikely to need their services I think they do a fabulous job, although I know there have been complaints from a number of RNLI stations that PC bean counters have been brought in at the top.  A few stations have actually broken away from RNLI and run independantly.  For that to happen there must be something serious happening in the background.

We have standing orders for MSF and AI but locally as we don't support the big ones with heavy overheads.   Not things like the RSPCA which has huge funds but has failed to get any decent legislation thru lobbying parliament.  The Netherlands have eliminated stray dogs thru a combination of laws and changing attitudes so it is possible.   NSPCC needs a royal patron to get more funding.

Complete change of tack and probably frivolous but tide marks in hair really get my goat.  Why, if you're a presenter/news reader/singer/actor/public eye person would you go blonde (mostly) or that currently popular bright red and then go round with badly maintained roots?  It looks dreadful and annoys me.

Have you noticed how they Photoshop the eyes on children and animals in the charity adverts? It's often done to the extent that they look like aliens. Those huge eyes are creepy.

On a completely different note, I am miffed because one of my laptop hinges is now broken.I must admit I dropped the laptop onto our granite hearth a while back and cracked the lid near the hinge but thought a bit of Giraffe tape would sort it! Now a little pile of black plastic bits has fallen out. It's still under guarantee but the damage was my fault so don't think I can claim and we've only just taken out new household insurance so I think that's a no no either. I'm surprised they make the outside so slippery, you'd think they could make them with a non-slip surface.  (Rant over, sorry!)

Yes, at the moment!  I haven't tried folding it down just yet, too busy reading all the posts.

Well my car didn't come back from the garage today. Apparently the parts are harder to find than they thought. I just hear that as ££££ :/
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Sounds like it's just the plastic then. Maybe you should leave it open until you work out what's what
