My uncle (welder by trade) hand built a steel boat about 40 ft long in his back garden over 20-30 years. The street was all semi's in rows and you could see his boat over the roof tops. When he got to 85 ish, I think he realized he was unlikely to finish it, but when the land behind (the only access) was sold, it had to be disposed off quickly and a very large crane hoisted it up and over (made the local newspaper!. The nicest thing was that the chap who bought it, took my uncle out to sea in it and they've remained friends since. The neighbours who'd had to put up with the sight of it celebrated by having all the leylandii removed!

We have a stockpile of widgets. Any time OH decides he's going to fix something - car, usually - it will transpire after about an hour of dis-assembly that he needs a widget that's a different size to the 267,523 widgets he already has. This is followed by a couple of hours internet shopping, a few days waiting for the post, finding the one he ordered is still the wrong size, rinse and repeat about 4 times per task. A month later the correct size widget will have arrived and his enthusiasm for the task will have evaporated and he'll have moved on. This is why we have currently 5 cars only two of which are actually operational in any sense.
This sounds scarily familiar. :#  I should really get around to fixing and selling the campervan...

What it is with (mostly) men and widgets?  There must be millions of widgets in sheds and garages all over the country,  just waiting for their moment.

This is the first house where I haven't had a load of rubbish in the loft space.  Unfortunately this is because this is the first house that has a cellar :/

I wish the mice would stop nibbling my widgets.

When OH worked I did all the DIY except the brute force stuff.  Now, he has taken it upon himself to "organise" all my widgets from screws to nuts, bolts, rawl plugs, metal brackets and washers.  I used to have a board on which I hung all my screwdrivers, pliers, hammers, and so on.  Now they are in boxes.  And he thinks they mostly need to be in the sideboard we have in the hall!  Unless they're in the shed.

I can no longer find anything I want!

I hate selling cars. I'm already getting scam emails and texts making all kinds of promises. The latest one is a military officer who is buying as a surprise for his son but is stationed abroad and will send funds via paypal and a 'collection agent' to come and get the car.

With my last car someone from up North agreed to pay full asking price without seeing the car and was sending his son down to collect it on his way to Harry Potter World. That actually turned out to be genuine though and they were a very nice family so you never know.
