Because they are a strong painkiller and addictive. Doctors can’t prescribe them anymore, I’ve got them for now, this will come into force in the near future. I can wean myself off of them, but whether any others will be as good remains to be seen. They've already banned one that I used to take, they could kill you he said! I’ve been taking them for more than 20 years and I’m still here!

That's fairly hellish for you Lyn. I can understand why you don't want the trip to the hospital. I hope you can find a substitute that works for you. My sister has a similar problem in that she takes medication which helps pain, but it's contributing to another issue, so she can't go on taking it.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I’m not going down to that hospital Dove, takes an hour to get there and another hour to find a parking space, then the wait, I’ll self medicate at my expense.
If you mean Derriford then I completely understand why you'd avoid it

@Hostafan1 - thanks very much for that link. It could be useful... though of course the web link to the Northern Gas compensation page comes up with "Page not found".
Hope you find other painkillers which work, Lyn. I can see how the hospital visit - even if only once a year - could be a real pain, but perhaps it might be worth it in the long run?
But painkiller addiction is a genuine problem (sorry, Lyn, not referring to you, of course) - as Dove points out. My mother-in-law became addicted to codeine, though she would never accept that this was the case. She'd try to buy more painkillers containing codeine over the counter to "top up" the ones she'd had prescribed, claiming they weren't as effective as they used to be. She was a very strong-willed woman, and always assumed she knew best about her own health...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
I think that's the point, Hosta. Careful, reasonable people think "I can't be addicted, I'm not like those addicts on the street" - but it can happen to anyone. Better to take these irritating precautions to ensure we're only taking what we need.

My curmudgeonly grump today is charity bags. I have a sign on the door notfiying them that we do do not donate on the doorstep, yet they keep coming. I've emailed every company, telling them they're just contributing to landfill, and most have complied, but another one came yesterday. I'm not sure how much spare clothing/bedding/toys etc they think I have, but I'd need to start buying clothes to fill the amount that we get every other week.
I collect (on average) 2 charity bags a week from my parents and parents in law and l use them as liners for my kitchen bin. They are still going to landfill, but at least l've had some use out of them. Strangely we don't seem to get so many around this area, l think it's because there is an older demographic where they live - not that l'm saying you're old Fairygirl, perish the thought
Lots of proper grumps today. Lyn, I hope you find a solution. No-one should have to cope with chronic pain. Liri - good luck with the gas repairs and the rest.
OH has gone out to play golf leaving me to tackle the ceiling on my own. Minor grump.

I suffer from cluster headaches (the 'suicide' headache) and the only thing that works for me is to take the prescription co-codamol and go off to bed. I notice that is on the list of 'banned/difficult to get hold of' drugs now so goodness knows what I will be able to get in the future.
