The corner of mine was a bit ripped ... but the magazine (and the advertising detritus) are all intact.

The stiff papery ones tend to open, but the softer compostable ones have stayed intact even though they look a bit fragile. I wonder if it's the glue on the stiff ones that's the issue

I just ordered more bird food to placate the goldfinches. Gardener's World discount plus loyalty points and the seed was on sale with free delivery so I saved a load of cash. I ordered a couple of bags of swan and duck food as well to keep the kids (and the ducks) happy over the winter.
Just as well you're not feeding them with bread (the ducks that is)......

What a car crash of a news story that is :#  it just shows people will believe anything that's written on a sign as long as it looks 'official'. The pond here is partly a nature reserve but also stocked for fishing so the maintenance people are keen to preserve water quality. There's plenty of people up here who chuck in a whole bag of Mighty White and then chuck the bag in as well for good measure though. The ducks go crazy for bird seed or the special duck pellets so I just stick to that.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I know when we were kids we used to feed the ducks stale bread.  As there are still loads of ducks around I'm assuming it can't have been all that harmful.  Maybe modern bread has too many additives which don't agree with the ducks' digestion.

I think one of the big problems is over feeding ... bad for the ducks and also uneaten food attracts rats which then prey on the nests ... eating eggs and small ducklings ☹️

I also think bread making has changed and the industrial fast rise technique is bad for human digestion, let alone the poor ducks.  Many believe the rise in gluten intolerance is due to the Chroleywood process.

I saw that sign in the park - still decided I'd stick to rice...
