just started raining again here. We had torrential rain last night, loud enough to wake the dead

I remember soon after we got our repayment mortgage, two suits from Abbey Natural came to the house to tell us the benefits of changing over to an endowment mortgage.
Now I'm not at all financially astute, but  thought that if it was important enough to them to visit me, it must be to their advantage and not mine. So I politely declined. I was proved right.

Think you're in for quite a bit more today.

A reason to be cheerful ... a small group of field fares appeared here this morning. 😊

Lovely wee things @Dovefromabove. We don't see them very often in the garden, as there's so much farmland/woodland nearby, but we had one in January when it was snowy.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    That made me laugh @Dovefromabove

I particularly liked the last line 'Other eagles had far more modest roaming charges.'

My Rhododendron ponticum (or Azalea if you prefer) "Luteum"  was delivered first thing this morning, a replacement for one that died.  I was looking forward to planting it, along with loads of crocus bulbs and Alchemilla mollis in the same border, but rain stopped play.  So I can enjoy the pleasure of anticipation for a while longer.  Maybe tomorrow, when I will probably have nothing else to do but can't go anywhere because I'm on standby for my voluntary job in case someone has to drop out.

I think you might mean azalea pontica / rhododenron Luteum.
Rhododendron ponticum is a whole different kettle of fish.

Indeedy doody @Hostafan1. Definitely don't want that horror in the garden.... or anywhere else for that matter.  :o

I keep meaning to get luteum. It's a delight when flowering.

It is lovely but the RHS site says it is listed on schedule 9 of invasive non-native plants - https://www.rhs.org.uk/Plants/15369/Rhododendron-luteum-(A)/Details
