    My reason to be cheerful were the two fledgling thrushes which were gently and lovingly coaxed out of the garage this morning. Mum wasn't keen to go in for them so I did the job for her.

    Releasing my huge dahlia pots from fleece and finding tender new white shoots. "It worked!" I shouted, as I danced about. Thanks for all the advice here on how to do it. The tubers didn't rot or die or desiccate. It's the first time fleecing outside through the winter has worked for me. Hurrah!

    That's great news Fire.  I cleared out the shed and there's now much more room.
