I'm hoping to watch it on catch up later, I tried last night (well, in the early hours of the morning) but the wifi kept dropping out. I always liked Unsprung more though, are they doing that this year?

I have to agree about Gillian, she's an odd choice for such a high profile role given her lack of natural presenting skills. I can think of quite a few presenters who could do a better job and she doesn't really fill the niche that Martin left behind. It's all very well to say she'll learn on the job but she's done a few of these now with not much improvement and she hasn't gained much rapport with the other presenters. She's still better than Kate bl**dy Humble though.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Does anyone else think that the choice of Gillian, is just the BBC trying to be PC?

The BBC puts being PC far and away above the ability of the people involved.  I just want to see the best people doing a job, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, disability not because of.

Sorry to disagree, but I must say I like Gillian Burke.  Her accent is a product of her upbringing in Kenya and Vienna, and I find it rather endearing...  If you look her up on Google you'll find her biology/natural history credentials are as good as Martin H-G's, and I think she'll become more relaxed as time goes on.  I believe Martin H-G is going to be used as well, during this Winter Watch.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Martin H-G is fun, and we miss him on these programmes, however I too have no problem with Gillian Burke and am happy with her presentation skills. Michaela is a natural presenter, she is well suited to this programme.

It's a good job we all like different things, but I find I watch despite of the presenters.
Luckily the films are so good, it is worth tolerating the facile [ IMO ] presenting.

Academic qualifications don't automatically mean the person is any good at putting that knowledge across to others.  Presenting is a skill in itself and not everybody can master it.  The biology teacher who took the 6th form at my school has a string of qualifications as long as your arm but was awful at putting his knowledge across.
