Sorry I meant members name Dovefromabove.
    Doves plant is Sarcococca confusa.
    How is that for confusing:wink:
As opposed to the one we grow with the narrower leaf  which is Sarcococca hookeriana.
    Apologies.

  • Ahhhh, mystery solved! Thank you Ruby too!

Nice daphne HCL.  I love sarcoccoca as well and have 3 or 4 around the garden, but can't get them to flower.  Is there a secret?
North East Somerset - Clay soil over limestone
  • I am so rubbish at gardening tbh but I did watch a you tube video on how to prepare soil to make it free draining . I too have Sarroccas confusa rare dragons gate Xmas box and one starting with r don’t remember name they in pots still from last year but they in bloom. They need no sun and they thrive I bought shade sheets to provide this as they woodland shrubs or they burn. I preped my soul by tilling over grass then laid gypsum manure soil added 1 kg of worms and left frost snow last winter and worms to dig in in spring I added gritty sand perlite soil.and coveted with bark. I have heavy clay soil thst is now easy to dig and joy to plant in it WAS hard work slow and costly but now I enjoy benefits as I know my expensive plant investment won’t have wet feet as grit will drain it away. Hope this helps

I had this bookmarked but am always losing it.
It is the National Collection of Sarcococca.

    https://www.sarcococca.org.uk/introduction/

It is incomplete but there is still a lot of information. The introduction page does a lot to help identify what to look for in identification. Bery colour etc.
Hope it helps a bit if you have time to look through.

    Nice Daphnes hotchocolatelover..

@Lizzie27 .  Ours are, one in deep shade, a couple in partial shade, including two in pots that get moved around and repotted (overdue again!).
All in flower, sorry no idea why yours would not.

I do not think you would do a beginners mistake and chop all the flowering shoots off.
The whole things flower from one end to the other.
But, just a thought, very old stems tend not to be productive. Maybe check up on pruning?
    Good Luck
  • Wow - *rubytoo* thanks for that info - had no idea there were so many sarcoccoca varieties.

i now want to get more....
