I wanted an Amalenchier and I bought one with Christmas gift money so I'm happy about that. Small garden and I'm running out of space now.

Can't go wrong with more Helenium MB @Nollie :)  The agastache kudos reminded me i was after Coral. I tend to go for dark foliage to complement hot colours, can't think of much maybe a pittosporum tom thumb - Ophiopogon ( black grass ) - nandina.D.firepower some of the dark sedums are nice but not evergreen thought of Loropetalum chinese but I think it maybe to tender. Geum TTangine are quite small flowers suppose to flower all season but mine hasn't , it got some flower buds on now though. Dont know about groups of 3 though they are quite large plants compared to other geums.  this is mine it at least 70cm+ tall and the same wide and it requires staking in windy locations

@Lizzie27 can I please be nosy and ask which hellebore plants you bought from Hayloft? Was it one of the plug selections e.g. 10 different varieties for a good price sort of thing, and if yes how are they doing? I wish I'd bought a hellebore offer I saw in a magazine but didn't not knowing if they were worth the time waiting for them to grow to flowering size. Daft of me really because I've been waiting 3 years for some self sown hellebore seedlings to produce a flower, so I do have patience really.
Oh I would definitely hoik out your unwanted shrub, roses give so much more. Which rose would you go for?

@lillysilly The GW magazine had 5x bareroot Hellebore Niger for p&p price only in Dec issue. My first lot arrived fine (have a flower on a couple) - I then ordered again - these are due anytime.  T&M Code TM_GW16 :-)

Thanks @Marran, that was helpful of you to mention the hellebore Niger offer. It's good you were happy with your plants to order them again😃.

I bought a couple of Niger plants in Aldi back in November to do a couple of winter pots. They were great value at l think £3. They can go in a border somewhere later on in the year.

The offer l saw and wish I'd got was I think 10 different hellebore plants for a tenner and p&p in the GW magazine. A mixture of doubles and single hybrids. There's always next time I spot the same sort of offer. Tbh I don't really have the space to plant 10 more hellebores, I am just plant greedy and want one of everyone, and must learn to be happy with what I already have. I'm the same with agapanthus, clematis, peonies and irises. Doesn't help reading on here what other gardeners are buying/ growing.

@lilysilly If you go on Hayloft site and look at the offers for GW mag - the 10 for £10 are still available - despatching before end Jan ... ;-)

Hi Lillysilly, The hellebores I bought (my second lot from Hayloft) were the 10 different sorts. The first lot I bought was several years ago and most are blooming really well, in the deep pink, plummy and purple shades. Some are double and some single flowers.
The lot I bought last year in April, have all survived but haven't grown big enough to flower yet. It put some in the ground but the choicest in pots so I could keep an eye on them. One was a black, one or two an apricot/peach and one a golden yellow. I think though I had a couple of substitutions from the advertised varieties. I like Hayloft, products are packaged carefully and I think good value. You do have to be aware that most are small plants unless noted otherwise, so they do take time to grow on.

Thanks for your thoughts on edging plants, @Perki, I did look at Ophiopogon but thought it would probably fry in full sun as part shade seems to be recommended. The Pitosporum Tom Thumb is a definite possibility, if I can get hold of it.. I do love the dark/purple foliage with hot colours combo as well. Purple sedums are probably my best bet in full sun, forgetting the evergreen bit. I also have a Loropetalum Black Pearl in a pot just now and its survived a few frosty nights so far... Your geums look gorgeous, will take heed of the eventual width!
