One of our little fellas has been coming out mid afternoon for the last two days. I've dashed out to put food down. After a good feed he trots back up the garden to his preferred spot. At dusk we get at least two round to feed.
That's great Firecracker, you are lucky to have them - I wish ours would come out earlier, sometimes he/she doesn't come to the bowl until 10 p.m. or later. He isn't staying for more than 5 or 10 minutes. If he is going to stay active over the winter surely he should eat more?
It could be that he is getting food from somewhere else @Guernsey Donkey2 ? It also might be that he is aware that colder weather is forecast and is slowing down. My local rescue has several hogs doing the same, eating less, apparently this is a sign that they are getting prepared to hibernate. @Firecracker, your hog that is appearing mid afternoon, does it look a good size? Sorry to sound paranoid , but even if it is eating well, it could be suffering from internal parasites if it's out and about during the day. If it's nearer to dusk, not quite so worrying !
Just been to my hog house and something has been rooting around and pulled out half the dry leaves. All the food has gone. With that much activity I'm hoping it is hogs.
Been out for a snack again, just hope he's okay. The birds give him a good chance, Mrs Blackbird kept jumping in for a mouthful. The squirrels keep away by about three feet waveing their tails in a mad way. Pic of him on his way back home.
