Thanks Joyce - and thanks @punkdoc ! I was just thinking about what to have for my lunch, then that photo appeared, and I have lost my appetite ! I am sick to death of the lot of them. Still, OH has gone out for a Christmas lunch, so at least I don't have to listen to the news this afternoon !
Anni - I have the radio on, so I'll still hear the news, but I'm going to adopt that 'fingers in ears, la, la, la, I'm not listening' method of blocking out the whole s*dding lot of 'em. Humbug anyone?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Haven't watched any news since this morning. Still stuck here waiting for a delivery, any time between 8am and 5:30. What's the betting the perisher's lost like yesterday's chimney sweep whose satnav sent him round the corner........

The pocket lining self interested NF has just called for ‘a negotiated No Deal’ He’s also angrily alleged that ‘there is a secret European army’ ... well, apart from there being not one shred of truth to that statement, it was his pal Trump who said not long ago that Europe should form an army. Ive turned the radio off. I’m going to find an old film to watch before listening to idiots puts my blood pressure up any more

It's like they have all forgotten what they are supposed to be there for, it's all self interest and s*d the "ordinary people" they are supposed to serve. Anyway, enough now, taking advantage of OH's absence to have mince pie, cup of tea and watch "Love Actually". That should do the trick !
If we leave without a deal there will be a hard border between Ireland and N.Ireland won't there? JRM's face makes me feel sick rather than just curmudgeonly by the way.
He can't help his face but he can help his opinions. Does a hard border really make such a difference to the peace agreement? If so, is that peace agreement worth the paper it's written on? Surely time for them all to accept personal responsibility and just be peaceful for the good of all?

Oh yes, it makes a difference. The issues there go bone deep - generations of atrocities, injustices and hatred. They are just below the surface now but it will be at least 2 generations more before you could hope to say that the divisions have been set aside with any sort of permanence. The peace agreement is terribly fragile and politicians on both sides are looking for offence. That's why their Parliament is still suspended - total intransigence over what to the rest of the world are trivialities - things like flags and signposts all carry huge significance. The vast majority want peace, it only takes a small minority to break it. It was never whole populations fighting, just a few. If you hear the business leaders speak, they desperately want TM's agreement and they especially want the backstop - they see it as hugely advantageous to NI. They despair of the politicians who are relishing being centre stage and will happily wreck everything if they don't get their own way.
