  • I'm just back from my local post office.  As well as stamps, it sells papers, mags, sweets and soft drinks.

Inside the shop just one customer, talking to a man behind the till.  She had no mask on, or anything else.  The man had a snood around his neck.  I felt like walking out but needed to get some stamps.

When I reached the PO cubicle, the woman behind the glass was wearing a mask under her chin.

Obviously, the wearing of facial covering has been pronounced a non-obligatory fashion item and nobody told me!

Judging by my own personal experience, the wearing of masks and other face coverings, it has, for many, always been a fashion option they could disregard!

Back at school for just a few days, and my grandchildren are sharing COVID jokes!

-Two grandmothers were bragging about their wonderful grandchildren. One of them says to the other, “Mine are so good at social distancing, they won’t even call me!”

-What’s the best way to avoid touching your face?

A can of whatyoufancy in each hand!  (???)

-During homeschooling, I asked mum why she was constantly talking to herself.  She told me because she was having Parent-Teacher conferences.

I had rather missed playground jokes!  Lots more to come, I have nodoubt!

I have a dream that my.. children.. one day.. will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character

It's so nice when your grandchildren "invite you in"and include you.  Lucky you!

I know it does not suit your narrative, BUT the vaccine is a wonderful story.
Yes but it was the whole letting things get so bad we needed a vaccine in the first place that people are bothered about. Does anyone really have a narrative that says the current situation is just bad luck and nothing to do with piss poor leadership? Let's not forget that Trump also tried to take full credit for the vaccines that the USA helped to fund but wouldn't accept any responsibility for the massive death toll caused by the virus he insisted didn't exist.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

And one thing done very well isn't a reason to ignore the things that were done wrong and are still being done wrong.

I can agree with that. Plenty of people at the start said this would come to nothing and if we'd started with the travel bans and strict lockdowns as we should have done there would be people calling for the same type of enquiries to ask why the economy was so badly damaged for a virus that did so little harm. The economy vs society debate will divide opinion forever I think. My hope is that the government won't be able to just sweep this under the carpet though and will be forced to concede that we have to follow the science and not the money on other matters like climate change.
