I've looked up kitchens and UK regulations and apart from building regs about fire safety when building a house or extension the only thing I can find is design advice to have a minimum 15"/45cm or workspace either side of a cooker and fridge and a "landing space" next to the microwave.  Other than that do what works for you.

Horrid news for that chef but I love his quip about having so many good red wines left to taste.   Brave man.

    Glad you're home safely Dove.

Thank you for all the advice. I think the woman from Wickes meant there isn’t any space between the cooker and the door. The cooker is in what should be the food preparation area by the sink. It just isn’t in the right place at all. No where to dish up.

I couldn't finish typing, was using OH's iPad and it went on strike.

Were you pleased withe the Wickes kitchen, Aunty Rach? Did they fit it or did you do it yourselves or get in a fitter?

I've started painting the dining room, primrose. It was yellow ochre. Who ever painted it before sloshed paint on the skirting boards and light switches and sockets.

She should be more careful about her vocabulary then.  Make sure any new units are the right height for you too.  The one here was too low as well as badly laid out.   You can play with layout yourself without spending a penny - IKEA have a kitchen planner app on their website.   I used it to great effect and then bought a proper kitchen locally.

WE HAVE RAIN!!!   Proper stuff I can hear even with the shutters down.  Hope it lasts a while.

Waking up to at least some good news in the States 😀

Wild, windy and rainy here - don’t think I will be getting my lunchtime “march” in 🤔

Redesigned kitchen sounds exciting Lizzie 🙌🏻....as does waving goodbye to ochre 👋🏻 😉. Whats the garden in the new cottage like?

    Good morning all.  Lie-in Dove?

We have had 15 mm overnight and no more now till after bedtime on Friday.   I hope it was enough to start the garlic growing and soften the soil enough to plant my flower bulbs.  Not today tho as I'm busy with other stuff includinga raid on a patchwork specialist shop for some decent fabric for thenext 2 projects.

Plumbers turned up at 7pm last night - come to fetch all the stuff they'd left here and need for all the people who've suddenly got emergencies with their CH system now it's turned cold.    Why would you not test it in Sept/Oct to be sure you won't catch cold?   Says he hopes to finish us off next week.

Primrose sounds a lot sunnier and fresher than ochre Busy.  Hope it's going on well.

Chicky - yes, but how do they manage to vote one way for Congress and t'other for Senate?

    Morning all.
@Busy-Lizzie - I am pleased with my kitchen, I had it installed by Wickes, which did add quite a bit to the price but in hindsight I just see the total cost of the kitchen rather than component parts. I don’t know if I was just lucky but my builder/installer was excellent and once they start work you arrange everything with them rather than via Wickes eg. you make more detailed requests about tiling, flooring etc and they book and arrange any gas installers, plumbers, tilers etc. It was well organised - but I don’t know if it always runs that smoothly?? You do need to be aware that you need to pay ‘on top’ for some of these other tradesmen so factor all that in when you have initial quotes as the ‘kitchen price’ can seem a very good deal but the ‘total price’ will be far away from that. I assume that is the same with most kitchen retailers.

Have a good day all. Heavy rain here.
