I think it's an expense and effort you odn't need to bother with as your house is for sale - unless you think it will improve the look of the bare soil in which case just and inch or two will do. Bark chippings would be more effective at reducing weed germination if that's what you're after but would need to be 3" thick so more expensive.

Laundry is in the machine and life would be returning to normal had I not stubbed the toe next to the little one on my left foot an hour ago and it still hurts!!!

Hurts on toes are not nice! I don’t have that problem, for some reason my toes and lower legs are numb, I can look down and see blood and haven’t a clue what I’ve done, numb toes are very handy in the garden😀

aaaaargggg!!!! I've just contacted Talk Talk via "virtual chat" about the problems with my phone/internet last month.
"Thank you for reaching out" they said "I'm not "reaching out", I'm typing" was my reply.
Who comes up with this nonsense? Was there at meeting where someone said " let's stop saying , "how can I help you" and start saying, "thank you for reaching out" ? Great idea says The Boss. Tell everyone to start saying " thank you for reaching out"
I filled in the survey at the end asking them to use real language which real people would use in conversation, hit "submit" and got the message " thank you for connecting with us" . Can't they just say "thank you for leaving feedback"?
Which bit of "waste of time and energy and money" do you not understand? Keep it minimal as new people will want to stamp their own personality on teh garden. It's autumn going into winter. People nesting season. Concentrate on the front approach being clean and welcoming and the nside being cosy and clean and mimimal personal touches so they can see it with their own stuff in there and not be overwhelmed by your knick knacks, photos, paintings, clutter.

Best start a new thread then on how to make a garden sellable as most posters don't look on this one which is for general chat and you are probably missing lots of potential suggestions.

Unless you have the sort of garden that can be opened to the public very little that you do will affect the sale as long as the hedges and lawns are cut and the place isn't full of weeds.
Real gardeners will see the potential and want to put their stamp on it. Non gardeners won't care as long as it's tidy.

I know ... and I understand how hard it is when you're desperate to move (been there and done that more than a few times) and you're itching to do something/anything that makes it sell ... but what we're saying is true ... maybe she needs to be thinking more about what she wants from her next garden so she can do her househunting in a really focussed way when the time comes

I know what you mean, Hosta. Language seems to be getting more sort of pompous, or is it American? I saw a programme about schools last night. Why did the teacher, talking to a pupil, say "vacate the room" instead of "leave the room"?
Fun and games this morning! Two chickens from next door but two, garden backs onto the side of ours, flew over the fence and were in our garden. Nice man, he came round and we were trying to catch them, very nimble they were. Eventually we managed to throw them back over the fence. They are new arrivals so not very tame yet and he hasn't got around to clipping their wings.
Must get back to painting the dining room, primrose instead of yellow ochre. I look a mess in my painting clothes. Suitable for chicken catching, though!
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
