How to stop Grey squirrel entering my lawn

  • Trapping then shooting will 'almost' guarantee an intant kill. I've stopped shooting them whilst they are on the hoof to minimise wounding rather than killing.
Depends on how good a shot you are and what weapon you use.

Trapping causes unnecessary stress on the animal and I have known people still not get a clean kill doing it this way.

So if your trapping them stay there don't leave it for hours or days as some people do, then as soon as it springs get hold of the animal and break their neck as you would a rabbit.

If your not happy doing this get / employ somebody that will. They maybe vermin but that's no excuse to make the animal suffer.

  • Is there something  like a strong spice they hate I can use to deter them. I'm fed up with them eating all my bulbs. Grrrrrrrr

Some people will recommend using chilli powder ... please don't ... I know the grey squirrels can be more than annoying Grrrrr ... but if they get chilli powder on their paws and then rub their faces/eyes (and we've all seen them do that haven't we?) it can lead to horribly ulcerated eyes and blindness ... and however much the greys annoy us, none of us want to be that cruel and cause that sort of pain do we?

  • A squirrel ran in through my open patio doors the other day. Not sure who was more surprised, me, the cat or the squirrel! Luckily it ran out again while I was rushing round closing doors to stop it getting further into the house, with the cat hot on its tail.
