You can get squirrel traps, that live catch them. You then have to dispatch them (air rifle?). Grey squirrels at this time of year are caching acorns, they are digging up my lawn too.

They are burying holly berries in a neglected wheelbarrow of compost and there I was very year blaming the b++++y pigeons for my lack of festive  berries to deck the halls!
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • @B3 - I like to make little flower arrangements, wreaths etc for the festive season and find that the holly berries are never just where you want them to be to look good, so I always use artificial ones anyway. You might be able to plant a holly hedge if they all grow!

You can pay someone to do it for you, pest control companies do humane exterminations if you cannot do it yourself.
Or watch and see if you can (roughly) imitate their alarm call. I do this because the ones here have a hissy fit at local cats. I can't make the noise on here, but it does work when I see them staying on the (squirrel proof) bird feeders too long or digging in pots, they scarper off for a bit.
Listen out for them making drawn out squeal noises with a short gruff chit chit chit ( sort of like a human snorting sound). They also twitch their tails at the same time...I know I sound mad!
    You might find it online.

    a strongly worded sign maybe?
if not, cayenne pepper powder works well as a deterrent if you put it on bird seed.
if not, then a good marksman, on the plus side apparently they taste quite nice!
  • Squirrel Stew

    Ingredients:

    • 1 squirrel, quarted pieces
    • 1/4 cup flour
    • 3 tablespoons butter or oil, for frying
    • 3 bacon strips, fried and crumbled
    • 7 cups chicken stock
    • 1/2 teaspoon coriander
    • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon Onion powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon Chicken stock cube
    • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste (optional)
    • 3 potatoes, chopped
    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 2 cans crushed tomatoes with juice

    Directions:

In a Dutch oven, heat the butter on medium. Sprinkle salt and pepper on squirrel pieces, then roll in flour. Fry squirrel in butter until brown on all sides, then remove and allow to cool. With a fork, separate squirrel meat from the bones. Cut meat into bite-size pieces as necessary.

Add all ingredients, except the tomatoes, into Dutch oven and simmer for 1 to 2 hours. Add the tomatoes and juice to the pot and simmer another hour.

The water scarecrows do keep them away HCL, but they freeze up in winter, so you cn't use them. They don't like a jet of water up their bum  :D
Ruby - I'm beginning to worry about you.... :D

I did have a laugh at your thread title HCL - I'm more worried about grey squirrels entering each other. That's what the real problem is.....
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
