Try cutting a bit off the bottoms of them and try again. Don’t know why they’re not rooting although it can be a bit cold in your porch.

They're all potted up, "old school" style. Do I need 120 penstemon plants? Of course I do.  ;)

I have resurrected this thread with a query - l took some cuttings from a neighbour's penstemon (with his permission !) last autumn. They don't look too bad, but the lower leaves have dropped off so they are very leggy and need potting on. Will l be okay planting them deep in the new pots so the bare stems are covered ? Thanks for any advice  :)

I'd nip out the tips, but plant them at the same depth.

if they're VERY leggy, you   could use the bits you cut off as new cuttings.

I wouldn’t worry about leggy with penstemons, you can cut them back like you would with the ones in the garden, they’ll make new growth from the bottom then.
As Hosta says, plant at the same depth.
