For Roman stuff, how about the London Mithraeum? https://www.londonmithraeum.com

I went to the John Rylands Library in Manchester on Monday - and gasped in wonder as I entered, if that's special enough? Manchester Central Library is also amazing, as is Liverpool Central Library - the latter similar to the old British Library reading room, circular with spiral staircases etc.

"Ah, well then don't miss the British Museum".

UCL is giving the students visits to the standard sites, so I would hope that the Natural History and the BM would be in there. But I will check.

I didn't know about the London Mithraeum. The history of Mithras worship has always been a fascination to me.

Dinner at Spitbank Fort in the Solent? You can also stay overnight.

Goodwood Revival for vintage motor racing although it may be difficult to get a ticket now.
  • Spitbank is great quite expensive at about £400 a night each all in you could do the historic dockyard at the same time Mary Rose, Victory etc you may get lucky and see the new Queen Elizabeth and a ferry over to Gosport for the explosions museum and the submarine museum, and lunch on the old light ship.

Underground tour at the National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield?  I've not been there myself, but some friends said it was fantastic.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • @raisingirl yes on the site of the old navel armoury not being sexist but probably more of a man thing unless your interested in weapons, shells, missiles etc but i does take you right from the beginnings of the Navy fire power.

We still have an amoury in Gosport but it is slightly more modern but they still have to load and un load the ships in the harbour and thats intresting to watch.

How about a weekend in Brighton?
There is loads to do. The Brighton pavilion, the i360, the pier and fishing museum and if he likes music there are some great jazz clubs for good night out

My myoungest goes to to some of the clubs and I can always ask him which ones are the best for whichever music he prefers.
