My Mum had one of those hairdryers too. I can still remember her using it Picidae's right - when you think what TVs, washing machines, video recorders [remember those?] even radios, cost back in the seventies and eighties, it was a small fortune compared to how cheap they are now.
Ruby2, I really ought to get one of those tailgater signs...
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Ach - but you're from the Victorian era, Hosta.... I have a DVD player, but I don't use it. I think I only have about three anyway! It belonged to the girls when they were younger but they play them on their TVs or 'pooters. Most TVs have a slot for DVDs now too.

It is much quicker to report a post to the mods than to wait for 5 flags and more efficient when the orientals invade.
We have 2 working DVD players. I have one in my sewing room, mostly used for watching but mostly listening to Geoff H videos while sewing stuff. The other is in the living room cos I like to watch films on the bigger screen. Not about to watch a whole film on a PC screen or teeny TV.
We have freesat in the kitchen which allows me to watch English language TV - mostly news - but also record stuff for while I'm cooking.

I bought an expensive laptop for work purposes and was surprised when it turned up with no CD/DVD drive and only 2 USB drives. Any kind of hardware input is apparently a dying technology. I don't like the idea of that at all. The reduction of plastic DVDs etc is fine but I can just picture the day when I can't have a cup of tea because my phone won't talk to the kettle or something stupid like that.
All said while I'm sat here listening to a book being streamed from Amazon The future is silly.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
OH has a very basic PC which keep everything in "the cloud". Far too nebulous and nefarious for me. I like my info to hand, in front of me and USB sticks and external hard drives for my backups and I need a CD/DVD reader cos that's how I buy music and films and then make my own mixes for long car journeys.
