@Nanny Beach you have my sympathy, I am just back on line after a week long battle with BT. We were supposed to be upgrading to fibre Broadband this time last week according to the advertising blurb it would all be seamless, they send a new Hub you plug it in they switch you over don't even need to see an engineer. Did that happen? of course not. New Hub arrived eventually after days of chasing. Plugged in all working on old speed fine so far. Then internet went down got a text to say new service activated it was so obvious to me that that was the issue, but then followed a week of calls to call centres tech help etc etc. They kept pursuing the line that the phone line was faulty which it never was. They unilaterally decided the problem was fixed and cancelled an engineer for yesterday so at that point my OH used her phone to email the chief exec. At 8pm last night we got a call from a senior manager who arrange a new engineer for today he fixed it within an hour he confirmed what I thought all along, they had disconnected the old line but failed to connect the new one to the right line to my house. No wonder BT are in such trouble why does nobody seem to do anything right or check it when it goes wrong
Openreach area bit of a joke. I have had 14 Openreach engineers over the last 10 months to fix an on-going fault with my line. I am beginning to know them by name!!

allotment boy, at least it didnt take 9 months to sort! My oldest daughter said to me, thats why she wont swap energy companies, loyalty doesnt pay, you have to shop around. I had extra on the phone a few weeks ago, threatening me to get a smart meter, theres a 3 page spread in the Mail today saying the oringal mark 1 meters dont work when you change suppliers and will all have to be changed.You know those "outreach" vans, they have a free phone number says "hows my driving" well, awful, frankly, so I did ring one day, and guess what there is no live phone line on that number, crafty eh!
Not sure I agree with that last one here Lyn. Ceramic worktops which, I'm told, are very easy to keep clean. In any case, I use chopping boards - big thick wooden one for everything except bread on a thinner wooden one and meat and fish on a glass one or plates or bowls depending on what I'm doing. I also think being too fanatical about hygiene in the kitchen is not good for your immune system.

I couldn't see an answer on the news apart from people had been sent to deal with it. If it's anything like the UK they'll wait for a windy day, push them out into the street and hope they become someone else's problem.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Apparently it isn't native to the USA but arrived with Russian emigrants who had seed with them. The young shoots are edible, it seems, and probably a treat after a winter of frozen cabbage.. However, its habit of breaking off and rolling as it dies in order to distribute seeds has meant it has spread far and wide.
In Russia it seems it's good at absorbing noxious minerals from contaminated soil
