Some thistles, like echinops, are ornamental and good for insects. Some thistles, like globe artichokes and cardoon, are edible and also decorative.
Some thistles, like Scotch, spear and bull thistle are just weeds that need to be cleared away.

They are quite easy to grow from seed, if you want to try. You may also like fullers teasel..........another great pollinator........and the small birds love the seed heads in the Autumn/Winter.
