Well. That was not a fun night. Why they do always do these things on a weekend?
I finally got it to stop bleeding about 6am. I was having to change the dressing on it once an hour. Then we both got about 4/5 hours sleep. It's still not bleeding but the two middle toes are very swollen. He doesn't seem to be in as much pain though, which is good.
I'm waiting on a friend to take us to the emergency vet cos I really don't like the look of his foot.
I also have to deal with approximately 100 bloody footprints. When I can find the energy. The hall is tiled so I can just mop that. But the carpet will need salt, cold water, and a toothbrush, I think.

I have a Phalene, hes 13 and can still keep up with a greyhound!) (yup you ll probably have to look it up) he has hair not fur, no undercoat or oil, gets various spikey seed things stuck in his coat, nigthmare to remove, 2 man job, as he hates it. Both of mine go into through the beds, sun bath on the soil. the other is a border collie now 3.5, she used to dig, especially if she saw us diggin, dond think she was helping just copying, we had to put a picket fence and gate along beside our bungalow because she kept digging and ruining newly planted stuff, then she chewed the top of the gate/fence, luckily the chewing stopped, diggin we get the occasional hole! Hope George is OK
I used to have a digger. He used to hide his favourite toys in the holes.

Hope it gets cleaned and sorted for you and him. Not so easy finding and cleaning all the blood splats.
One of our recently adopted kittens developed a problem with his paw pads shortly after we let them go out about 18 months ago. We discovered it the source by tracking all the little blood spots back to him, lying on the clean duvet covers. His whole central paw pad almost rotted away with whatever it was and then others started doing it so he was on twice or thrice daily paw checks and cleaning with iodine and then pads and socks for months. Took months to clear up and stop having new bloody paws but seems to have stopped now. One of the vets thinks it's FIV related and the other doesn't but is baffled.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

I expect it's a thorn or a splinter or maybe even broken glass. Who knows what lurks under shrubs. Funnily enough, while he ahd the dodgy paws he was happy to be picked up, inspected, cleaned and dressed but now he's better he tends to wriggle when picked up, just in case we start poking again.

Hope you get it sorted soon Laura. Poor dog ! Will you be going back to the bushes to investigate what could have caused it ?
There's a big problem with littering in this area. It was most likely a piece of broken bottle. But as I don't know exactly where he went in I doubt I'll find it. He does have a light on his harness so that I can see him in the dark but he was already on his way back to me when I realised something was wrong.
I have put a warning on the community FB page though.

That's good @LauraRoslin. Don't know if you have a neighbourhood litter picker group ? We have one around here, neighbour is a member. Anything like this where there is a load of litter etc, they get notifications and tidy up the area. Hope your dog is better soon.
Know what you mean, Laura, it's amazing how many unexpected things occur just at the time that people were going to turn up. Best wishes to you and the hound !

I still do it but it's difficult to keep up when you're on your own.
