When in the early 1970s I shared a rented house which had a garden. One summer we spent a lot of time planting what turned out to be rose bay willow herb and then discovered that the garden had been sprayed with a long lasting weedkiller and they all died off anyway.

... conversely I think I probably up rooted a load of honesty that I had planted but hadn't recognised. I was expected sunflowers and was miffed to realise they weren't that.

Oh dear I'm on the silly step too! I found some lovely burnt orange hairy leafed daisy type things in our lane, brought one home, planted it with bone meal and plenty of water,I've googled it,but it seems it's just a very pretty weed!

If you like it, it's not a weed, it's a pretty burnt orange hairy leafed daisy. Don't be put off by nay sayers.

One person's weed is another person's treasure. As Fire says if you like it (and it's not something pernicious like horsetail), then keep it!

That burnt orange hairy thing can be an invasive pest if it's happy
Keep it unhappy and it's a lovely plant
    In London. Keen but lazy.

I like it Fire! So it's staying at the base of my standing stone! (Just a rock stuck up on its end! )
