In your defence, wood avens is in fact a geum - albeit a wild one...   :)
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • I did the reverse, Annie.  On a recent weed-fest, I dug up and got rid of some perfectly healthy geums I'd planted the year before thinking they were weeds.   It's certainly a learning curve, this gardening lark, isn't it?

I've found that if a seedling grows fast and is ridiculously lush and healthy - it's a weed.
I still get caught every time.

They look like Geum urbanum (the weedy one) unfortunately, AnniD.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

I've got a bit of a dilemma with my weed as it would leave a biggish hole in my main border if I dig it out - could I cheat and just cut off the flowers prior to our Open Days,
do you think anybody would notice....?!!!
