That's a stunning colour, FG. You're sure it's not actually made of velvet?
They really are beautiful r'girl. That's not a  particularly good pic - close up from 2 yrs ago with raindrops  :)

I moved the clump last year so that I had a better view of them as the Niobe clem was crowding them out.
I was going to get that for the pondside Hosta - but I really don't have room. I need a pond the size of yours. The last house had one like that  ;)
    Dove -   :/
I've got plenty of black plastic if you need it   :D

No rain here. The three day window when the clay goes from diggable to concrete is almost up, so I had better get out there and plant a few more dahlias.  I have the same problem as Hosta. I bought a mixed bag of pom pom dahlias for cutting. It said which three varieties they were. Trouble is the individual tubers weren't labelled, so I made labels and they will get swapped round when they flower. I still have several tubers yet to sprout, or only just showing tiny green shoots. Others are in bud.

Quite annoying fidget. I have the same problem with some Liatris I got as a bargain. Of course, I meant to label them when in flower of course....
I may try some dahlias for my hot bed - the Llandaff one is quite tough isn't it? Colour would work I think. I don't have anywhere to put them overwinter apart from the house, and I'd probably forget I had them!
Just went out to do something and there was a bonny goldfinch sitting on the pyracantha, singing away. I made the mistake of coming in for the camera.... :(

    Hello everyone!

Rain has stopped.  I should be going shopping pretty smartish, so I can get back and plant out the runner beans.  They're raring to go...

Really gorgeous iris, Fairy.  My next garden must have a sunny patch...

DD, your energy leaves me breathless.  Congratulations on achieving so much in such a short time!

Hope you all have a happy weekend   :)

Good morning.  Slept thru all snoring and mouse present announcements and have ahd a lovely lie-in.   Took 2nd coffee down to the PT to inspect babies - 4 cornflower now and 6 sunflower.  Sad to be counting but very exciting to see them peep thru.  The vitex I potted no yesterday look happy too.   Just need OH to finish making beds for me to plant them all.

Thumb still throbbing but is changing so maybe today the offending article will pop out.  I need it for fastening shorts, tying up my hair and weeding and all sorts!  Sunny today and I want to get on outside.   Storms tomorrow.

Gorgeous irises FG and Hosta.  That purple is sumptuous.  The bearded iris babies I brought with me have started flowering sporadically and some are that deep purple.   Yum!

FB I have dahlias taking their time too.  Some sprouted weeks ago but are still only a few inches high and one or two are doing nothing and a couple of others have pin head sized bits of green.  Frustrating.  It remains to be seen if they're correctly labelled.

Have fun everyone, whatever your weather.

Hurrumph!!!  It was only drizzling I shot down to W'rose in the village to grab some weekend food (seabass, noodles and spinach for tonight, lamb and aubergines etc for koftas etc tomorrow and chicken thighs and Albacore tuna for later on) ... just as I got out of the car the heavens opened ... I pulled on my showerproof jacket and paddled into the store where the staff were already armed with brooms to sweep the deluge out of the foyer and a throng of shoppers were waiting to venture back out into the carpark!!! At least I had the aisles almost to myself as I dripped my way around the store  roll

I'm home now and it's more or less stopped and I've changed my clothes and OH has unloaded the shopping and made me a coffee ....... time to collapse on the sofa for ten mins

Love those irises ... my I. sibiricas are looking pretty good at the moment ... perhaps if the flood ;-) in the garden recedes I'll get my camera out ....

Me too Dove.  Glad you're warm and dry now.

Meanwhile, I've had a message from our house-sitters to say they can't get here.  They're in Spain, minding another house and he's been knocked off his bicycle and is broken and needs ops and she doesn't drive.   Have to try the reserves and if they're not free, re-advertise.  Yikes!  Supposed to be going to Belgium for graduation and Possum moving purposes.....

Possum is in panic mode.  Thought we'd get away with it this year as she has n exams but no, she's having abdabs about her thesis and says she won't hand it in.   Just what I need.

Good job the sun is shining!

OH says it's dry enough to get on with the painting again ... he's keen  :open_mouth:

I might make some soup for lunch ... there must be something in the cupboard or the fridge I can use ... or something from the garden of course   https://www.riverford.co.uk/recipes/view/recipe/lettuce-pea-and-mint-soup ... think there's some frozen peas in the freezer .........
