I once had a friend who kept white mice in a cage, she asked me to look after them for a week when she went on holiday. I took on the job, but after a few days I couldn't bear the stink of them so I put the cage in the basement.
To Aureliecelerier, I would never allow cats in a rented house of mine. Like cigarette smoke, it is impossible to get the smell of cats out. I can usually tell at the first step whether a cat lives in the house or has previously lived there. Very VERY unpleasant smell.
Millie Mollie Mandy if there is something that I have learned from this thread and the previous one is that you have a very sensitive sense of smell.
Yes if you had to keep a cat indoors or on your own property but felt you couldn't then would you then think maybe you can't look after a cat in an appropriate way so shouldn't get one as a pet?
The point that a lot of people have made is that cats are the only pet that owners don't feel the need to consider before buying. Obviously it's the cultural norm to just let your cat out to roam so people just think this is fine and legally cats are protected to do so. The point being made though is about the unacceptable impact on other people and wildlife that this is causing and it is hoped that current or potential cat owners will wake up a bit and realise that the burden is on them to do something and not on the people affected by their pet.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
No I would not keep my cats indoors, and yet again I am not seeing any suggestions about how to keep them on my property. Also, I have never considered that I own my cats, and that is something that cat lovers understand.
To be honest, I joined in on this thread again simply to balance things out, but if you feel as strongly as you do then why not float your ideas on one of the many cat forums on the internet and see what they have to say?
I'm not sure I can explain this in a way that you're going to understand so I'm not going to waste any more of my time. If you want to add balance to this thread then arguing from an ignorant and selfish viewpoint isn't going to help your case.

What have you tried so far? Maybe with some ideas of what you have already attempted to do to keep them on your property, we can provide you with some useful suggestions.

Then there would be no need for this thread or others like it.
Would that stop you owning a cat though?
Fox hunting bans?
