A few years ago I entered my garden in our local 'In Bloom' competition and won 1st prize.I was of course delighted but it also put me under pressure to win again the next year (and the year after that etc.etc.).It was always judged on the first Saturday in July and I was always worrying about how everything would look on that one particular day of the year.I spent a small fortune on plants etc. to get it looking how other people expected a garden to look.I never won again but came 2nd and Highly Recommended. Last year I decided I would not enter again and this year I am enjoying my garden again in the way I want to. Not so much in the way of bright colours as I love foliage plants, hanging baskets are ivy and heucheras,my grass is now a 'meadow lawn' with carefully planted 'weeds'. So just enjoy your own garden doing what you want to with it

Hi, yes, I use pure wool. I knit a lot and love to dye my own, so no worries there. I'm hoping to experiment this year with cloth dyes made from the garden - geranium, cornflower, raspberries, elder. Inks worked very well for the last few years, though fixing long term isn't always easy.
I've been growing it from seed (first year). The slugs seem to love it (even inside my house) so hanging baskets should work quite well. I don't really want to do regular, pollen-less bedding plants this year like begonia, petunia, lobelia etc - which are pretty useless for bees etc. It seems a wasted opportunity. So I am trying wild flowers / species plants in baskets to see what happens.
I hadn't thought of putting them in hanging braskets, but now you mention it, it might be fun.
