I just saw the news.  It's a topic near and dear to my heart, as a primary school teacher who has to lead my students during our monthly 'shooter' drills.  I'm despairing to think American will ever get it's sh*t together and do something about guns.  If 20 dead 6-7 year olds in 2012 wasn't enough to tip the balance.. and the countless before and since.. what will?  I am disgusted.
How horrible for you Blue Onion. The Dunblane massacre up here a couple of decades ago, changed a lot in this country, although we didn't have the kind of problem with guns you have. I believe many of the families from Dunblane helped recently after one of the other incidents - giving moral and physical support.

@Fairygirl, the difference is , we learned our lesson after Dunblane and banned handguns.
I really can't see usa ever doing that. Unfortuntely.

Exactly Hosta, and I agree - it won't change. Too many with 'fingers in pies'  as Joyce says.
How can they look at themselves in the mirror and feel no shame......

    Hi all,
Thought I was having a bad day,  I went to get a parcel from the post office depot, they changed their hours now shuts at 13:15. Then  went to buy printer ink but could not find the piece of paper with the code number on it. Went to get straw for mulching the strawberries the place was just closing. Then a friend rang, he had just heard that a mutual friend of ours had died at the weekend he was only 2 years older than me.
Puts it all in perspective really.

Evening. I was supposed to be baking a lemon cake tonight but I forgot that it needs to go into a cold oven (unusual recipe) and I was already cooking some chicken pieces for tea so I will do it in the morning now. Actually, a cake is always delicious when it’s slightly warm so that will be ideal as the cake is to be ready for “the wedding”.
    Enjoy your weekend all.

    Just so, Allotment Boy...

    Evening all.

Not quite sub zero last night, but only 0.5C - but a beautiful day to follow.  Stupidly though, I've reduced my ability to garden in the next few days by cutting my finger rather badly with a very sharp kitchen knife.  Took it to the doctor to be dressed but they sent me to hospital... it's now stuck together with steri strips and encased in a large bandage.  Grrr.  Will I never learn???

Lovely photo, Hosta.  Glad your VIPs enjoyed their stay!  Re the US gun laws, I can't see them changing while the NRA has such a hold over those in power.  It's just incomprehensible to us in Britain.

    Nice tree, Clari!

The roof is still not finished - the roofers had to source some particular sized roofing stone today.  (Stone roofs are traditional here, and our house is in a conservation area so we have to replace like with like.  Wooden gutters are also the norm.)  But we're convinced they're doing a good job; they're taking photos as they work, and explaining everything to us.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Nasty accident Liri and all too easily done. Hope you're not out of action for long.
You will be relieved when the roofing work is complete. Luckily the weather has been good for getting on with it.

Ouch Liri 😱. Keep it clean and out of mischief for a while... how frustrating

Obxx and Pdoc - flat is good for cycling 🚴🏻‍♂️ .  Hope I don’t have to avoid all stoemp, its one of my favs.   Will check out tripadvisor before we cross any thresholds 🙃

Goodness Liri!   Hope it heals soon.

Chicky - just don't eat stoemp that's been sitting around and then get re-heated inadequately.  It was the meat wot did it I reckon.

AB - that does sound like a bad day.  Hope tomorrow's better.

No wedding cake here AR.    We're off to new friends in the village to see their garden but I do need to make a cake or some biscuits for Sunday for a picnic lunch - garden club outings all day.

I don't know what's got into our two dogs lately but every day they barge around being giddy like a pair of puppies.  Lovely to see but a bit manic for an 8 to 9yr old lab and an 11 yr old Wheaten terrier type and hilarious when Minstrel joins in and teases Bonzo into chasing her up a tree.
